AGM
The Probus Club of Yeovil held its AGM on Monday 10th November at the Quicksilver Mail. It was very well attended and the existing Committee was re-elected but with the addition of two new members. Chairman, David Parsons highlighted the successful year they had with excellent guest speakers and interesting visits. Although Probus is a club for retired professional and business people they also hold a number of events throughout the year when wives and partners are invited.
At every lunch they have a charity collection and this year it was donated to Motor Neuron Disease Association. Their local representative, Sarah Armstrong was present to receive the donation of £620 . After thanking the members, she gave a brief outline on how the organisation helped local people and their families cope with this serious neurological disease.
Next year, Yeovil Probus has already got a full programme of speakers and are looking forward to another exciting year.
They meet once a month at the Quicksilver Mail, Hendford Hill, to listen to their guest speaker followed by lunch. It is a very friendly atmosphere for like-minded retired gentlemen.
Their first meeting next year is on 12th January 2026 at the Quicksilver Mail starting at 11.00am. Details are on their website; https://yeovilprobus.com

At last month's meeting we had a fascinating talk by Col. John
Blashford-Snell CBE talking about the Darien Breakthrough .

Col. John Blashford-Snell is a former British army
officer, explorer & author.
In 1971-72 he oversaw the first north -south vehicular
journey from Alaska to Cape Horn. Part of this journey
involved crossing the Darien Gap-thick uncharted
jungle & swamp in Panama & Columbia.
An expedition to drive two newly introduced Range
Rovers 17,000 miles through North & South America
was initiated & Funded by the MoD.
It entailed crossing a 250 mile stretch of extremely
inhospitable land in the isthmus of Central America,
through which there was no discernible route. The
terrain was regarded as impassable, consisting of thick
rain forest, several sizeable rivers & an extensive
swamp. The area is home to all manner of ferocious,
biting, poisonous creatures & vicious thorny toxic
plants.

This month is our AGM but on 8th December we will have a talk about Uncle Bill: Britain's Forgotten Hero – Field Marshal William Slim

Probus Club of Yeovil New Year's Ladies and Guest Luncheon 2025

On Tuesday 28th January Yeovil Probus Club held our annual New Year luncheon for wives and partners at Castello's Restaurant in Yeovil. We also welcomed colleagues and their wives from our neighbouring Gillingham Probus Club. Our two clubs have established an informal partnership which allows us to join up for visits and events.

We would like to record our thanks to all the staff at Castello for making us so welcome and for such an excellent lunch.

Probus Club of Yeovil supports local Guides & Scouts

The annual general meeting of Yeovil Probus club presented cheques of £300 each to Girlguiding Yeovil & Yeovil Scouts.
The money had been collected by members throughout the year at their monthly lunches and was part of their desire to help the youth of the town.

Scouting continuously evolves to ensure that the experiences that are offered to our Young People remain relevant and enable them to work their way through the many challenges they will face in the wider world. This donation will be shared amongst the groups in the local area. It will be used to support their efforts to ensure that the Young People ,within their sections, whose families are experiencing financial difficulties, can benefit from the different opportunities that Scouting can offer"Probus is a club for retired or semi-retired professional and businessmen. Every month the group get together or a lunch and listen to a guest speaker, meeting on the 2nd Monday of the month at the quicksilver Mail.
