Yelverton Play Park officially opened two new pieces of play equipment on Saturday 2nd May. It was the perfect opportunity to thank those organisations and individuals who had done so much to make the play park the success it is. The ribbon on the new wheelchair friendly roundabout was cut by Imogen Mcfarlane, the great grand-daughter of Brian Medhurst who founded the park over 25 years ago. A cake, in the shape of the roundabout was cut by Mrs Sue Hicks, wife of Kevin Hicks, a Trustee of the Masonic Mark Benevolent Fund which funded the project. The roundabout is yellow and blue; colours chosen in support of the people of Ukraine and it was great to share the day with the Nightingale charity which does so much to help the Ukrainian people by supplying medical equipment to the front line.
A new swing was also 'opened' and was paid for by generous donations from Dr Bernhard Reake, a local resident who left a significant sum in his will to support young people in Yelverton, Yelverton Rotary, Tescos, the Yelverton Co-op and the Pelican and Integrity Masonic Craft Lodges. Yelverton Community projects, the charity which runs the play park also thanked volunteers from Babcocks who painted the fencing, students from Mount Kelly who help in the park and children from Meavy Primary school who helped to fundraise.
The new equipment was supplied and installed by a local company and Simon and Emma from GreenSchemes were there to help us make the day go well.
Many of those who attended help to fund the park through the play park lottery which is a really great way to help keep the park in tip-top condition (follow this link to join - www.yelvertoncommunityprojects.org).
Are we done? Well, not quite! We are now busy raising funds for our next project to replace the original tower. If you’d like to help, follow the link above.
