Lots of exciting things have been happening behind the scenes at Baguley Hall recently. At our recent meeting we introduced you to the new custodians of Baguley Hall, so make sure you follow their page Baguley Hall - Heritage Trust North West for updates.

As you probably are aware our beautiful hall is Grade 1 listed.

We can't say too much just yet, but...

There is a new heritage programme coming up on More 4 where Kevin McCloud will travel the length and breadth of the UK visiting some of the most remarkable historic sites. He uncovers the stories behind the buildings and structures Britain has chosen to protect at the very highest level.

In the five-part series he explores more than twenty Grade I and Category A listed landmarks. If you keep your eyes peeled you might recognise a familiar hidden gem on one of the episodes.

It looks as though the first episode will air on Wednesday May 13th.

Watch the trailer and Google Kevin McCloud’s Listed Britain for more information.

Here is a link to the update we've all been so eagerly waiting for.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Heritage Trust North West will take ownership of Baguley Hall

With this new ownership, we know chief executive Michael Guy will bring his expertise, resources, and his deep commitment to preserving our heritage to ensure future generations will be able to enjoy the hall. By working hand-in-hand with Michael and the Trust, we will ensure that this cherished hall remains protected, restored where needed, and vibrantly alive as a cultural and community asset.

Preserving places like Baguley Hall is far more than bricks and mortar (or timber and wattle and daub in this case!) — it is about safeguarding stories, memories, and the sense of identity they provide and most importantly, securing the future of this magnificent medieval hall.

On behalf of the Committee, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Historic England for their vision, and to all those who have supported this cause over the years. Together, we are writing the next chapter in this hall’s extraordinary history and we are very much looking forward to be a part of it.

Friends of Baguley Hall

We will be arranging a public meeting very soon. Thanks for everyone's continued support.

Good news! We've selected Heritage Trust North West to take ownership of Baguley Hall, a stunning Grade I-listed medieval building in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester. 🏛️

The Trust will work with the local community to develop plans for the Hall's future use and public access.

Dating to the late 13th century, Baguley Hall is one of the oldest and finest surviving timber-framed halls in the North West. Its great hall features soaring timber beams and a central hearth that once provided cooking and heating for the medieval household.

Good evening all. We had an online meeting with Historic England last week and they gave us a very encouraging update. It looks as though they will be ready to make a decision on who the preferred bidder is in the next couple of months.

We obviously won't have all the answers until we know who is going to take on the building, but we feel confident that concerns raised by us and the local community throughout the process have been taken seriously. Our questions have been addressed and answered as fully as currently possible due to the confidentiality clause.

Below is the information that was shared with us. As soon as we get any further news we will share it with you here.

"Following receipt of additional information from the two shortlisted parties at the end of June 2025, we have now fully considered their proposals and are close to appointing a preferred bidder. It is critical that the right organisation takes the site on, so we have been carefully interrogating their submissions. We cannot share details of the bids at this point due to commercial confidentiality, but we will be able to share details of the successful bid over the next few months.

To provide you with some insight into the decision-making process we can confirm that the following criteria have been included in our assessment of the bids (in no particular order):

- Impact on the significance of the site
- Deliverability
- Relevant expertise of the team
- Confidence in the ongoing sustainability of the proposals
- Level of public access
- Approach to involving local communities in developing their plans
- Reputational risk"
