Waxham Great Barn re-ridging, a birds eye view...

This remarkable film, shot by Adam Southgate, captures master thatcher Michael Aldred at work on Waxham Great Barn with a rare sensitivity and depth, transforming a traditional craft into something profoundly moving.

It offers an inspiring window into the beauty of thatching, the rhythm of the work, the precision of the skill, and the quiet mastery of Aldred himself, while also celebrating the enduring magnificence of the building he so carefully tends.

The result is nothing short of superlative, a tribute both to craftsmanship and to the art of seeing it.

The creator of this film, Adam Southgate, who worked as a labourer for two years with Mick Aldred, he has created something truly exceptional.

✨ Latest update from the magnificent Waxham Barn ✨

The newest photos really highlight the exquisite beauty of the freshly finished thatch. They show the completed building in all its glory, including a typical outshoot ridge repair, the repaired hip, and even the house-martin nests still safely in place 🐦

The scaffolding came down on Monday, with the eaves netting now fitted, and the results speak for themselves. Master thatcher Michael Aldred has done a truly superlative job 👏

As always, we are incredibly grateful to The Pilgrim Trust, the Swire Charitable Trust, and the Geoffrey Watling Charity for their generous grants, which have helped make this work possible.
