Great night last friday where we had a thought-provoking talk about how society is changing, including the decay of community life with pubs closing at record numbers, and plummeting participation in traditional civic clubs such as masonry, lions, rotary, etc.
We live in a hyper-connected, digital age where superficial interactions are automated. People can have thousands of digital "friends" on social media, yet more people report feeling lonely now than at any other point in documented history.
The modern world has become so frantic and superficial. With the rise of home working and social media, many of us sit at home alone for the vast majority of most days. Getting people together in a room, shaking hands, and having a genuine face-to-face chat has become a rarity—but it's exactly what we need to bring back. Many people are hungry for real, authentic connection, mentorship, and a bit of focus away from the online chaos. The good news is, the appetite for real community is still out there—we just have to step out and look for it.
And whilst we’re fully aware of the hypocrisy of posting this on Facebook, it's worth making a quick reminder to encourage people to engage with other humans rather than rely on a screen! 📲❌
There are lots of good options locally to get involved with, including:
• Andy’s Man's Shed
• The Women’s Institute
• Wylam Cricket Club
• U3A
• The local masonic groups.....but mainly local masonic groups because of the cheese board!. 😉🤫
