Somehow we forgot to add the Dorset Wildlife Trust visitor centre on Chesil to our list of community litter picking hubs post🤦
So if you are looking for a fun free activity on Portland, you are now spoilt for choice on where to beach clean with Starbucks at the Portland end of the causeway and the visitor centre at the Ferrybridge end both with equipment.
Just pop in and ask to borrow a litter picker and bucket and off you go! 👍🪿🦭🦀

June 16th is !
You may remember a while back we raised the issue with Weymouth Town Council of the lack of refill points away from the seafront. We are pleased to say they listened and have installed 4 additional refill points ready for this Summer at:
Radipole gardens cafe
Outside Swannery car park toilets
Outside Overcombe toilets
Outside Nothe gardens toilets

These are in addition to the seafront beach taps and the refill points at:
Hope Square
New Bond st
Alexander gardens
Kings statue

20 million single use plastic bottles of water are sold in the UK daily, just refilling a bottle once would save 10 million bottles a day!

Did you know we currently have 3 community litter picking hubs, where you can borrow equipment to do your own litter pick.
Situated at:
Radipole Lake Cafe for Radipole Nature Reserve
Saltwater Shack Brunswick Terrace, for Weymouth beach
Starbucks Portland for Chesil & Hamm beaches
No need to make a purchase just ask at the counter but all 3 cafes are ideally situated for well deserved drink afterwards.

Every Summer we see the same stories of litter on beaches. Every year we see the same comments about using bins, we need bigger bins etc! This year we've even seen people demanding skips on the seafront.
For the past few years we've been trying to get the message across it's not just about the beach looking nice it's about protecting the environment & sustainability. Using a nylon tent or inflatable shark for the day and throwing it in the bin to be burnt just isn't sustainable or good for the environment.
Last year we started repurposing towels that had been left on Weymouth beach. In one week over half term this season we collected 35 from just 400m of beach. When you think how many towels must be left on beaches from Bournemouth to Blackpool it makes you think!

Ok we might be biased as Rockfish Weymouth have supported us for almost 3 years thru their community fund but we think this idea is brilliant! 👏
If you are visiting Weymouth over the summer and eat at Rockfish's excellent restaurant on the seafront you can claim back the cost of half a day's parking or equivalent off public transport.
Just take a photo of your parking ticket or show your bus/train ticket and you'll receive money off your bill.
