Last week, we celebrated the World Kidney Day with an event focused on raising awareness and celebrating kidney health.
This global initiative aims to raise awareness about kidney health and encourage proactive steps to prevent kidney disease. With millions of people affected worldwide, kidney disease often goes unnoticed, as many individuals may be at risk without even realising it. Kidneys are vital organs responsible for filtering waste, balancing bodily fluids, regulating blood pressure, and producing hormones that help control red blood cell production.
The importance of proactive kidney care was at the heart of this event, which brought together a range of healthcare professionals and organisations. It provided a valuable opportunity for both the public and staff to deepen their understanding of kidney health, ongoing research, and available support. Attendees were able to explore a range of informative stalls, featuring representatives from Diabetes Norfolk Trust, Organ Donation Nurses, the Research team, Kidney Care UK, the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Charity, Kidney Research UK, the Norfolk Renal Fund, the Dietetics team, the Renal Counsellor and the Chronic Kidney Disease Specialist team.
Becci Lorimer, Chronic Kidney Disease Specialist Nurse and event organiser, said: “It was such a fantastic event, and it was wonderful to see so many people, from staff to the public, coming together to share their interest and learn more about kidney health.
“The support from my colleagues and participating charities was incredible, and it’s always inspiring to see the community so engaged and eager to make a difference. With kidney health becoming an increasing concern worldwide, initiatives like World Kidney Day play a key role in educating the public and helping people take proactive steps to maintain kidney health.”
