Prospect Hospice provides end-of-life care to people 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission. Care and support is tailored to the needs of the individual. Our specialist teams of nurses, doctors, therapists and family support staff provide clinical, emotional and practical support to patients and their loved ones at the hospice in Wroughton, Swindon, in people’s homes and in the community. We work in close partnership with other care-focused organisations and local health and social care professionals, with the shared aim of bringing the best possible care to people in their final months, weeks and years. Prospect Hospice is a charity and provides all its services free of charge to patients. It costs £7.5 million a year to run our services. We receive just 25% of our income from statutory organisations such as the NHS, with the rest coming from generous donations from the community. Prospect Hospice was founded in 1980 and serves a community of more than 300,000 people in Swindon and north east Wiltshire, including Royal Wootton Bassett, Marlborough and Pewsey, plus Lechlade and Fairford in Gloucestershire. Hospice care gave Vic the chance to be Emma’s mum again. 💚

When Emma spent her final weeks at Prospect Hospice, our team took care of the medication, pain management and practical care, giving Vic something incredibly precious: time simply to be with her daughter.

They could hold hands, talk and even share a cup of tea together in the hospice garden.

As we come to the end of , we’re shining a light on the difference hospice care makes, not only to patients, but to the people who love them.

Today, members of our hospice team are picking up the phones, emailing and writing cards for a very special reason: simply to say thank you.

We’re getting in touch some of our wonderful supporters who have supported Prospect Hospice to let them know just how much it means to us.

Every donation, every fundraiser and every act of kindness helps us continue to be there for local people and their families when they need us most.

“I honestly don’t know how we would have coped without Prospect Hospice.”

When Suzie’s dad, Pete, was diagnosed with MND, he wanted to remain at home, surrounded by the people he loved. With support from our specialist MND practitioner and wider team, Pete’s wishes remained at the heart of his care, while his family were supported too.

“They held us up when we broke down and I’ll never forget the difference their unwavering support made.”

This kind of support is vital, but currently it’s left to the luck of the draw, with government funding varying wildly from hospice to hospice.

So, while we’re celebrating hospices and their brilliant staff this , we’re also pushing for change and joining in saying: don’t leave hospice care to chance. Help it to be there, for all, for now, forever.

At Prospect Hospice, we believe everyone deserves compassionate care at the end of their life, helping people to feel as comfortable as possible and focus on what matters most to them.

But nearly 1 in 3 people don’t get the care they need at the end of their lives. And with government funding varying from hospice to hospice, the care people and families can access can depend on where they live.

That shouldn’t be the case.

This , we’re celebrating our wonderful hospice teams and everyone who helps make our care possible. But we’re also joining Hospice UK in calling for change.

Because no one’s end-of-life care should be left to chance. Hospice care should be there for everyone who needs it, now and for generations to come.

A huge thank you to the fantastic team from Zurich, who spent last Friday at Prospect Hospice helping to transform the large planting area at the front of the hospice.

As part of their annual Zurich Challenge, 15 employees got stuck into the planting, as well as generously donating £500 towards the project.

A special thank you also goes to Kingsdown Nurseries, who kindly gave us a generous discount on the plants, and to our wonderful volunteer gardeners Yvonne and Sid, who have helped coordinate everything and get the garden ready for its makeover.

It’s a real team effort, and we’re so grateful to everyone involved for helping make our hospice grounds a welcoming and beautiful space for patients, families and visitors. 💚

WHAT. A. MORNING! 💚🏅

A massive congratulations to our incredible runners who took on the Swindon Half Marathon today!

Every one of those 13.1 miles helps us continue to be there for local people and families when they need us most. Thank you! 💚

And did anyone spot a pig on the course? 🐷👀 A special shout-out to , who completed the half marathon in his pig costume, raising money for Prospect Hospice and The Harbour Project.

And a huge shout-out to our brilliant volunteers who pulled out all the stops at our cheer station! Thank you for creating a sea of Prospect green, making plenty of noise and giving our runners such fantastic encouragement as they made their way around the course. We couldn’t do days like this without you!
