As PCTC continues to expand its reach, the time has come to a give its name a professional visual identity. The Gumbi Permaculture Community Training Centre is proud to present its official logo to the public.

The logo incorporates the Triquetra, representing interconnectedness, unity, and eternity, which is at the heart of the mission. 🌱

On 18th April, James and Chipiliro visited Gumbi to meet with GEF students and their parents, creating space for meaningful conversations about how to make the most of educational opportunities. 🌱

James shared his thoughts: “We had a really wonderful day with our GEF students and some parents. We met at PCTC, and the day began with a warm cup of lemongrass tea.”

Lead farmer Martin plays a vital role in keeping the farm thriving, from daily operations to sharing knowledge through workshops with local farmers.

PCTC is dedicated to empowering communities with the skills and knowledge of permaculture. Today 525 homestead farmers across 22 villages are putting these permaculture practices into action, creating lasting change. Chipiliro also plays an important role in supporting and delivering homestead farmer training.

Through sustainable farming, biodiversity conservation, reforestation, clean energy, and climate-resilient practices, theses homestead farmers are working towards long-term food security and a healthier, more balanced ecosystem in Malawi.

On Sunday 12th April, ACAN Committee member Patrick Busby completed the Brighton Marathon to raise funds for ACAN's environmental justice initiative, the Gumbi Permaculture Community Training Centre. Trustee Jenny Griffiths went to support. This was a tremendous achievement - "mission accomplished", as he said. Patrick has raised nearly ÂŁ5,000 for solar water pumps for irrigation, which will increase crop yields and lift farmers out of food poverty.

In 2003, journalist John Vidal travelled to Malawi and saw the impact of famine and poverty first hand. Together with Malawian health worker Patrick Kamzitu, they started something small but mighty: a fund to help students attend school. What began as an idea is now 20 years strong, and still growing.

Thanks to the generous donation of computers from the Municipality of the Hague, during a visit in Summer 2023, trustees Madeleine and Sophie delivered new laptops to the local Gumbi area, including the Nambuma Secondary School, the Gumbi Library and the GAPP farm.

These laptops are vital for supporting students’ learning and development, as well as helping local leaders manage the organisation and administration of GEF and PCTC.

Last year, ACAN funded new beehives and we’re delighted to share that the bees have officially arrived! Our lead farmer, Martin Jay-y P Thole, expertly built the hives himself to save costs. Seeing the hives come to life is a huge moment, and Martin is thrilled to watch the bees settle in. In time, the project hopes to produce and sell honey. Swipe to see the bees feeding on banana flowers - a beautiful sign of progress and sustainability in action.
