🌱 Good to Grow at Erlas 🌱

This evening, we are hosting a session in our Log Cabin as part of the Good to Grow initiative. We have a variety of gardening-themed workstations set up and ready to go, providing participants with the opportunity to learn new skills, get hands-on, and enjoy time in a welcoming and supportive environment.

We're also excited to be introducing our brand-new "Get into Gardening" workbook, designed to support participants throughout the course and provide useful information, tips, and activities to continue their gardening journey at home. The image below offers a little preview of the new guide. 📖🌿

Gemma's Craft Group Success 🎨🧶

Gemma has been busy in the craft group, where she has recently been learning the art of weaving. Alongside her support staff, Gemma as been using colourful yarn and a weaving frame, she has been creating a wonderful piece while enjoying time with friends and staff.

Anyone who knows Gemma will know that she brings a huge personality to every session. Her enthusiasm, sense of humour, and ability to brighten the room make her a valued member of the Erlas community.

Craft sessions continue to be a popular activity at Erlas, providing opportunities for creativity, social interaction, and learning new skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. It has been lovely to see Gemma engaging with the activity and producing such colourful work.

💚 National Volunteers' Week 2026 💚

This week, as part of Volunteers' Week, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who give their time, energy, skills and kindness to support Erlas Victorian Walled Garden.

Whether helping with gardening tasks, supporting events, maintaining the site, sharing specialist skills, or simply being a friendly face around the garden, our volunteers make a huge difference every single week.

The garden would not be the place it is today without the dedication, enthusiasm and generosity of those who choose to volunteer with us. Your contribution helps us maintain this special space for our beneficiaries, visitors and the wider community.

🌺 Hanging Baskets for Sale at Erlas 🌺

Our beautiful medium-sized hanging baskets are still available for sale at just £18 each, and they are looking absolutely lovely at this time of year. 💚

Each basket has been lovingly grown and cared for here at Erlas by our beneficiaries, volunteers and staff, with some plants also carefully sourced from local suppliers to help create a colourful and varied display. 🌼

🌿 The garden in the sunshine 🌿

With the hot weather making any sustained gardening quite challenging today, our beneficiaries have been enjoying a slightly gentler pace in the shade, taking part in a range of indoor activities, including painting plant pots which will soon be available for sale at Erlas. 🎨🪴

That gave me a good excuse to take a stroll around the garden with the camera and capture a few moments from around the site. ☀️🌼

Even during the warmer weather, the garden still offers plenty of shaded and peaceful areas to explore, and the temperatures are expected to dip a little as we move through the week.

So if you’ve been thinking about visiting Erlas, this could be a lovely time to come and see the garden for yourself. 💚

🌿 Looking for a green space to explore during half term? 🌿

If you’re hoping to encourage the family to spend a little more time outdoors this week, we would love to welcome you to Erlas Victorian Walled Garden. 💚

Our updated Robin Trail will be available for children and families to enjoy, alongside simple activity packs in the Nature Den including colouring, bug hunting, and crafts.

Our self-service little café “Ty Paned” will also be open for refreshments, and the gardens are looking especially beautiful at this time of year. 🌼 We also have many shaded and covered areas around the site.

We still have plenty of our beautiful medium-sized hanging baskets available for sale at just £18 each — lovingly grown and cared for here at Erlas, with some plants also carefully sourced from local suppliers to help create a varied and colourful display. 🌺 Why not pick one up during your visit and help support the ongoing work of the garden?

🌿 Friday Craft Group at Erlas 🎨

While much of the day-to-day activity at Erlas Victorian Walled Garden takes place outdoors in the garden, we also run a dedicated craft-focused session every Friday alongside the usual gardening teams.

Recently, Vrithi has been spending time taking part in these creative activities, working carefully on different craft projects within the group setting.

Sessions like these provide an opportunity to focus on fine motor skills, coordination, concentration, creativity, and confidence, while also encouraging communication, teamwork, and social connection in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The Friday craft group offers a different pace and atmosphere to the gardening sessions, and it’s lovely seeing beneficiaries enjoy expressing themselves creatively while spending time together. 💚

🌿 Final Erlas Spring Fayre Totals 🌿

We’re delighted to share that this year’s Erlas Spring Fayre was another record-breaking event, as we raised over £3500 to support the ongoing work of our community garden. 💚

We also welcomed an official total of 551 visitors across the day — making it the biggest Spring Fayre we have ever held at Erlas Victorian Walled Garden.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, shared our posts, ran stalls, delivered posters, baked cakes, bought raffle tickets, or simply spent time exploring the garden with us. The atmosphere throughout the day was wonderful, and it was lovely to see the site so full of life and support.

The funds raised will directly support our work with adults with additional needs, helping people build confidence, develop skills, form friendships, and take part in meaningful day-to-day activity within the garden.

🌿 A quick Spring Fayre update 🌿 And more RHS recognition 🌿

We’re still finalising the totals from Saturday’s Spring Fayre, but we can already confirm that it was a record-breaking event for Erlas Victorian Walled Garden — both for visitor numbers and funds raised 💚

A huge thank you again to everybody who supported the day. We’ll share the full totals as soon as everything has been counted and finalised.

🌿 RHS Feature 🌿

We’re also incredibly proud to share that following our RHS Community Award win last year — where Erlas was named the UK’s best community garden for health and wellbeing — the Royal Horticultural Society has now featured Erlas Victorian Walled Garden within an RHS wellbeing and horticultural therapy article shared through the RHS newsletter network, reaching approximately 30,000 subscribers nationally.

The feature highlights the work taking place here at Erlas supporting adults with additional needs through therapeutic gardening, accessibility, wellbeing support, skill-building, and community connection.

To see Erlas recognised nationally by the RHS is something we are incredibly proud of.
