Family Friends

Family Friends Here at Family friends we help you make connections with others and build resilience so you can create a life you love.

we offer 1 to 1 support in the home, counselling and EMDR and a variety of group based wellbeing sessions for adults and children. Family Friends offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with children, in our local community. Family Friends offers a unique service, recruiting and training volunteers who are usually parents themselves- to visit families at home from pregnancy to any

child before their 15th birthday to offer informal, friendly and confidential support. Through a network of trained and enhanced DBS checked volunteers who are parents or have relevant experience, we support hundreds of parents and children who are experiencing difficulties of one kind or another. Our families need support for many reasons including social isolation, post-natal depression, disability, bereavement or the illness of a parent or child. Every Child and Family matter and our support is tailored to the individual and family.

4 Things That Make Kids’ Behaviour WORSE (Without You Realising)

1.Saying “calm down” when they’re overwhelmed
2.Giving attention only when things go wrong
3.Expecting them to regulate emotions we struggle with ourselves
4.Feeling like you have to get it “right” all the time

This isn’t about blame — it’s about understanding.

Children aren’t trying to be difficult…
They’re trying to communicate something they don’t yet have the words for.

And when parents get the right support, everything can shift.

Who are we and what do we do?

5 uncomfortable truths about being human… that might just change how you see yourself”

1. You’re not meant to cope alone
We’ve normalised independence so much that asking for support can feel like failure… when actually, it’s how we’re wired to survive.

2. Your reactions make sense (even when you don’t like them)
Stress, snapping, shutting down—it’s not you being “bad”… it’s your nervous system doing its best to protect you.

3. Comparison will always steal your peace
There will always be someone doing “better”—but you’re not seeing their full story… just like they’re not seeing yours.

4. You can love your family and still feel overwhelmed by them
Both things can be true at the same time. That doesn’t make you a bad parent—it makes you human.

5. Connection is the thing that changes everything
Not advice. Not “getting it right”. Just sitting with people who get it… that’s where things start to shift.

If any of this hit a nerve, you’re not alone.

We’re creating a space where parents can come together, share the real stuff (the highs and the hard days), and support each other through it—without judgement.

💛 A place to breathe
💛 A place to feel understood
💛 A place to remember you’re not doing this on your own

⭐⭐⭐ STOP SCROLLING IF YOU’RE A PARENT… 👇

Ever feel like:

You’re holding everything together… but only just?
You’re second-guessing every decision?
Your child’s behaviour changes faster than you can keep up?
Everyone else seems to be coping… but you’re not sure you are?

You’re not the only one. And you’re definitely not failing.

⭐ Introducing: Parenting Together ⭐

Share the real highs and lows (no judgement, ever)
Learn from each other (because no one knows parenting like other parents)
Pick up practical ideas that actually work in real life
And most importantly… have a breather with a cuppa and people who get it

This isn’t a course where you’re told what to do.

There’s so much pressure on parents to “get it right” — but the families we see thriving aren’t perfect.

They’re real.
They’re honest.
And they prioritise connection over control.

Sometimes the most powerful thing a parent can do is say: “This is hard… and I need support.”

That’s where change begins.

"5 Things Parents Wish They Knew About Children & Sleep”

1. Overtired children don’t look tired… they look hyper, emotional, or angry.
2. Sleep struggles are often linked to anxiety, not just “bad habits.”
3.Connection before bed = calmer nights.
4. Screens right before sleep can massively impact mood and settling.
5. A child who feels safe falls asleep easier.

💤 Sleep is never just about sleep.

When children aren’t sleeping, it affects everything — behaviour, emotions, school, and family life.

It’s easy to fall into routines of frustration or blame (for them or yourself)… but sleep struggles are often a signal, not the problem itself.

A small shift in understanding can completely change the dynamic.

You’re not alone if bedtime feels like the hardest part of the day.

❤️ Save this for later — especially for those tough evenings.
💬 Comment “SLEEP” if you’d like more support or ideas around bedtime routines.
