Wild Ground

Wild Ground Based in North East Wales, working to engage, inspire and enthuse local communities, acting together to protect wildlife, enhance habitats and eco-systems.

Wild Ground started off as a local interest group campaigning for retention of green space for people and wildlife and are now a charity operating throughout North Wales. Based at Tanyfron near Wrexham, we own and manage sites throughout the region. Most of these are mitigation sites that focus on the legally protected great crested newt, but are also home to a variety of flora and fauna. While ou

r primary focus is the protection of amphibians and reptiles, we manage all our sites to additionally benefit wider biodiversity and key species of conservation concern. Our access policy maintains a mix of closed and public access sites, to both protect sensitive habitats and facilitate engagement with the natural world. We work with communities through a wide range of education sessions, public events, training, and volunteering. Education and engagement activities with schools and families While this is funding dependant, include nature-themed crafts, wildlife walks, and practical activities like building bug hotels or bird boxes. Our training programme ranges from professional 2-day courses on Great Crested Newt Licensing to informal courses on wildlife ID and habitat management.

What is scything? 🌱

Scything is a technique used historically to mow grass or harvest crops, and ensures that we minimise risk to wildlife. It's also an incredibly mindful practice, allowing your mind to focus on the technique and enjoy nature. Benefits all round!

Did you know that our Lane End nature reserve was previously a brickworks? The clay quarrying only came to an end in 2000 😲

Now the site is unrecognisable; a large number of ponds have been created which now support a large great crested newt population 🦎

We love these drone pictures of the site, it's amazing to see Lane End from the air 💚

2 Days Left! ⏳

There’s just 2 days left in Wild Ground’s crowdfunding campaign to support the restoration of ponds on our Glascoed nature reserve.

Glascoed is a haven for wildlife, hidden away beside St Asaph Business Park, but two of the ponds are in need of help.

Please help to spread the word if you can! https://communitiesfund.avivafoundation.org.uk/p/restore-ponds-for-nature-and-the-planet #
