Stepping Stones North Wales

Stepping Stones North Wales Stepping Stones North Wales is a charity based in North Wales that offers free individual counselling.

The service is free and available to adults who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse, we also provide support to family members, carers and friends. Survivors can be referred by an agency or can self-refer by contacting the office on 01978 352 717, text: 07814 358882, email: [email protected] or visit https://steppingstonesnorthwales.co.uk/services/. Following the initial asse

ssment, if we are the correct service for you at this time, you will be placed on a waiting list to commence counselling, where we aim to offer your preferred choice of gender of counsellor, area, day and time when available. We also provide a Next Steps group where you can bring a friend or family member with you to any of these sessions, we also offer educational courses. Stepping Stones North Wales aims to support you throughout your counselling journey, following your initial assessment you may be supported by our First Steps initiative receiving a weekly support call until your first counselling session begins. During and post counselling you are able to access the support of Next Steps. Next Steps is a monthly group that provides a friendly welcoming and safe environment, supporting and empowering all clients past and present to overcome the impacts of their abuse. The aim of the group is to assist with gaining confidence, building friendship and achieving individual hopes and goals. This is achieved through education and a variety of activities such as art, creative writing and crafts. This is not a counselling service rather it is aimed at complementing the counselling support you receive or have received. We have access to male specific group activities, such as men’s sheds and will endeavour to source activity groups that may be of interest, by request to any individual.

Today for Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re talking about PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). 💚

PTSD can happen after experiencing or witnessing something frightening, traumatic, or deeply distressing. It’s not “just in someone’s head,” and it’s not something people can simply “move on from.”

For many people, PTSD can feel like being stuck in survival mode long after the danger has passed.

It can affect people in different ways, including:
• Flashbacks or nightmares
• Feeling constantly on edge or alert
• Panic attacks or anxiety
• Avoiding certain places, people, or situations
• Trouble sleeping or concentrating
• Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected
• Being easily startled or overwhelmed

Sometimes people with PTSD may seem distant, irritable, quiet, or withdrawn — but often they are trying their best just to cope with what’s happening inside their mind.

Healing from trauma takes time, patience, and support. 💚

A few gentle things that may help:
✨ Grounding techniques to stay present
✨ Listening to calming music or ASMR
✨ Deep breathing exercises
✨ Spending time in safe, calming spaces
✨ Talking to someone you trust
✨ Seeking professional support when ready
✨ Being kind to yourself on difficult days

Most importantly: trauma is not your fault, and your reactions are valid.

If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD, support is available through organisations like Mind UK 💚

This week is about raising awareness, supporting one another, and reminding people they never have to suffer in silence.
