Bridge2Aid Providing Sustainable Oral Health Training The work is focused in deprived areas - especially remote and rural ones.

Oral diseases affect around 3.5 billion people around the world, hitting the poorest and most disadvantaged populations hardest. We are a small UK based training charity working in partnership with dental professionals, dental associations and governments in East Africa to train local dentists and dental therapists to train health care workers to be able to offer safe emergency dental treatment to

their communities. We also train community health workers in oral health promotion, and in delivering community-based oral health education programmes .

A huge thank you to the Bristol Dental School students who have been working with us as part of their community engagement project.
Over the past few weeks, students have been supporting four local community organisations — The Haven, One25, Homeless Health and St Monica’s Trust — by
delivering oral health education to communities and training staff to become oralhealth ambassadors.
These photographs show students sorting oral health bags and preparing to visit The Haven last week as part of this important outreach work. We would also like to expressly thank for their generous donation of oral health packs, which
are helping to support communities who face barriers to accessing dental care.
During the second half of June, the project will continue at the dental school, where students will provide treatment for patients who traditionally face significant barriers to accessing dental care.
We’re proud to be part of a project that helps improve access to oral health support, builds confidence within community settings and strengthens links between dental education and local communities

Our terrific partners in Tanzania, thedi.or.tz , are constantly working behind the scenes ensuring that our outreach and training programmes are delivered in the right place and with the right people.

Today Mr Joshua and Dr Chicco visited the Regional Medical Officer (RMO) and the Regional Dental Officer (RDO) for Geita region, where they introduced the idea of inviting Dental Therapists from Geita region for training during our Outreach program in Misungwi and Sengerema.

What an absolutely brilliant day at the Apprentice Meets the Dragon Den course! It was incredible to watch 14 bright and enthusiastic young adults, aged 16–24, grow in confidence throughout the day and finish by delivering their presentations with so much energy, passion and pride.

Each delegate gave five presentations and competed for a business contract, making it a day packed with challenge, courage and amazing achievement.

Annie had the pleasure of spending the day with Ashley Latter Dental Sales Training and this fantastic group, and it was so inspiring to see just how much growth can happen in only a few hours. A huge thank you to Ashley for hosting such a powerful experience and for his generous donation to Bridge2Aid — we’re so grateful for your support!

Days like this are such a powerful reminder of what can happen when young people are encouraged, challenged and given the opportunity to shine ✨ We loved every minute of it!

We’re delighted to be working with Bristol Dental School on the next stage of an important community engagement project.

Over the next two weeks, fourth-year dental students will be leading oral health education sessions with four community partners across the city — The Haven, Homeless Health, One25 and St Monica’s Trust. As part of these visits, students are also meeting patients they will go on to treat at the dental school during the final two weeks of June.

The project has four key aims: to give students meaningful experience of working with local communities; to improve oral health literacy and support staff to become oral health ambassadors; to widen access to treatment for people who face significant barriers to care; and to help create a sustainable pathway into future treatment through the dental school.

👏We’re proud to support work that connects learning with real community impact.

The Smile Within: the art show in aid of BDA Benevolent Fund and Bridge2Aid
🎨 The Smile Within is coming to the British Dental Conference & The Dentistry Show —and it’s all about supporting mental health and wellbeing in dentistry.

Sometimes you don’t realise how much you miss creating… until something gently invites you back to it.

Aneeka Ashraf (Dental Core Trainee 2) has moved location every year of her clinical career—chasing growth, experience, and the next challenge. Somewhere in the middle of training, relocation, and life shifting around her, art went quiet.

Then The Smile Within opened a door.

Her piece, Serenity, is a love letter to the work nobody sees: the care, patience, trust and resilience that happen beneath the surface—long before a smile feels easy again.

Featured artwork: Serenity (original acrylic on deep edged canvas, gloss finish, 18 x 24")
Minimum bid: £80

The Smile Within: the art show in aid of BDA Benevolent Fund and Bridge2Aid
🎨 The Smile Within is coming to the British Dental Conference & The Dentistry Show —and it’s all about supporting mental health and wellbeing in dentistry.

Meet Richard Graham — a retired general dental practitioner whose lifelong love of nature and photography lies at the heart of his contribution to The Smile Within exhibition.

For Richard, photography isn’t about technical perfection or labels. It’s about capturing moments, memories, and the restorative power of being outdoors. From insects and woodland scenes to dramatic landscapes, his photographs reflect mindfulness, patience, and the simple joy of slowing down.

As a former BDA President and Patron of the BDA Benevolent Fund, Richard has spent decades supporting colleagues in dentistry — both professionally and creatively. His photography offers a reminder that in a demanding profession, reconnecting with nature can be a powerful antidote to stress.

Richard is exhibiting four framed photographic prints drawn from meaningful moments spent fishing, walking, and travelling — each image preserving not just a scene, but a feeling. All works are available, starting at a minimumm bid of £30 each.

✨ “Photography helps me enjoy the moment — and then brings it back to me… sometimes years later. Capturing those moments is precious.”

✨ From Dentistry to Detail: Creativity, Faith & Wellbeing ✨

Meet Dr Karen Paterson – a retired dentist whose creative practice beautifully weaves together photography, faith, service and wellbeing.

What began as a way to unwind from the pressures of clinical life has become a powerful way of helping others pause, breathe and notice. Through images of rivers, skies and wild landscapes, Karen invites us to see hope, renewal and the presence of God in everyday moments.

📸 “I could lose myself completely… just noticing.”

Now Past President of the Christian Dental Fellowship, Karen continues to give back through her art – raising funds for charity, running a weekly craft group, and exhibiting work that opens conversations around mental health and creativity in dentistry.

🌿 Featured works in The Smile Within exhibition:
