Men In Sheds is an exciting, innovative new project for older people in Worthing, the first to be established on the South Coast. Our aim is to bring retired men and women aged 55 and over together, to help overcome social isolation and to improve health and well-being, while at the same time working on projects for the benefit of the local community. You can either work on your own project or wor

k collaboratively with local charities, schools, community groups and social enterprises on projects that they need help with. For example, our work with Baked: cake with a cause, where we handcrafted tables for their café, and our collaboration with Albion in the Community’s ‘Be Cancer Aware’ campaign where we developed a unique ‘Play Your Cards Right’ game out of wood to help raise awareness of the symptoms of cancer at community events to use at community events. The environment is friendly and welcoming and there is scope to work on a range of practical activities and projects including furniture restoration, refurbishment of old tools and woodworking, with some of our products sold to generate the revenue to support the project. There is however, more to the shed than just saws and sandpaper. The shed creates an informal social space where everyone can talk openly about health and well-being issues.
