So Thursday was an extraordinary day!! I had been to the hospital as I have every day for the last six weeks where my husband Mick Cassell is critically ill. I had just come out from an uncomfortable meeting regarding his health with our middle son Andy Cassell and Mick's consultant. I had to rush home with 15 minutes to get tidied up and get our little dog Vita to our eldest son Jon E Cassell and Michelle Cassell before arriving @ the Worthing Community Awards ceremony organised by Melanie Peters. Me and Grace Mealing just scraped in as the Ceremony began not really sure what was happening or why we were there. We had a lovely evening, thanks so much to Melanie Peters. We met some new and old friends but were completely taken aback to receive the last award of the evening for "outstanding contribution to Worthing". To say I was completely floored by this is an understatement and it has taken me a bit of time to process. Yesterday me and Grace Mealing went for a lovely pizza at Ask Italian courtesy of a raffle prize and I suddenly knew what I needed to do!! say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has been part of this prize over the last 30 years!! Me, Mick and our three boys moved back to my home town Worthing in 1995 and since then have initiated many projects for the love of our town through our charity Storm. So........ THANK YOU to all those who painted and acted as security in our first project repainting the underpass on Chapel Road the doorway into town!! THANK YOU to all those of you who were part of the Street Pastors for the 10 years we ran it. THANK YOU to all those of you who were part of Worthing Winter Night Shelter which ran for 8 years up until covid changed the rules and made it impossible to continue. THANK YOU to all my extraordinary knitters and crocheters from MakenMunch and others who worked on the extraordinary Poppy Waterfall project in 2018 which is still continuing each November. THANK YOU for our lockdown flower carpet project, the 1000's of angels and green hearts we have made and given away over the years, the Christmas knitting displays on Rowlands Road, the Christmas display Town Hall 2025 and the displays as part of Time for Worthing, Worthing Pride, Worthing Hospital Penguins and Worthing Festival. THANK YOU to all you who have litter picked with us and gardened with us in the town, on the seafront and on Storm allotment. THANK YOU to all those of you who cleaned, painted, decorated areas of our town during our Summer holiday mission weeks. THANK YOU to everyone who has been part of our community events at Storm House and now (Rowlands Road), The Sidney Walter Centre and St Andrews CofE High School. THANK YOU to all the Storm team in the past and in the present and hopefully the future. You are all part of this award and we appreciate you and honour you!!
