Today, we at Strange New Worlds remember the life and passing of our friend and founder Alan Mitchell.

Alan hailed from a background in comics and was acknowledged as for bringing Black voices, perspective and experience into the UK comic scene.

He contributed to the cutting edge Crisis comic, collaborating with Pat Mills.

Alan had the idea of putting on a comic convention in Worthing and together we delivered 2 incarnations of Strange New Worlds: the first in 2010 and the second — The Strange New World Weekender — in 2011.

SNW was the pioneer for comicons in Worthing, blazing the trail that others have followed.

Stalls, worships, seminars, star signers, plus cosplay and exhibits.

We were particularly proud of being able to bring some amazing talent on board, including Dave Prowse (Green Cross Man & Darth Vader), Pat Mills (the godfather of British Comics), artist Glenn Fabry and others.

One advantage of being a smaller-sized event was that visitors got to spend quality time, up close and personal, with the stars and other contributors. Several families remarked on how much fun that was.

It's hard to believe that it's 9 years since Alan left us. He would have been 65 today.
