St Paul's Hostel was established in 1977 in the vicarage of St Paul’s church in Worcester; in an aim This includes befriending.

**We are always looking for volunteers to help with a variety of activities. St Paul's Hostel was established in 1977 in the vicarage of St Paul’s church in Worcester. At that time, the Council of Churches in the City got together determined to do something to help people who were rough sleeping in the City. The service, very basic to begin with, developed and 8 years later our hostel was built cl

ose by on Tallow Hill. The charity's objective is to help single homeless people across the County of Worcestershire and the wider West Midlands. St Paul's has a hostel that is available for ages from 18 upwards. We offer several services including: resettlement, a dry house, counselling, internal and external activities, kitchen project and so on.

A sunny day on the Malvern Hills might look like a simple day out. But there’s a lot more happening here than you might think.

Regular community outings are part of the work that happens behind the scenes at St Paul’s. They create space away from the hostel to talk, build friendships, grow in confidence and reconnect with life beyond homelessness.

On this particular day, the conversation turned to life at St Paul’s — the staff, the friendships, the support network and the kindness that had helped two of the residents pictured reach the point where they were ready to move into homes of their own.

These are the moments you don’t always see when you think about the work of a homeless hostel. But they’re an important part of how we help people move forward.

Breaking the cycle happens beyond our four walls, too.

Sometimes, change looks like a day out at Cheddar Gorge.

For the people who live at St Paul’s, days like this are about much more than getting away from the hostel. They’re a chance to experience somewhere new, spend time together and discover something they may never have had the opportunity to experience before. At Cheddar Gorge, that meant exploring the caves, learning about their history and, for some, stepping outside their comfort zone.

Rebuilding a life after homelessness isn’t only about having somewhere safe to stay. It’s also about rebuilding confidence, reconnecting with other people and beginning to feel part of the world around you again.

Some of the people in these photographs still live at St Paul’s, while others have since moved on. Together, they’re a reminder that recovery and change are often built through new experiences, shared moments and opportunities to reconnect with life beyond homelessness.

A big thank you to Paul, who donates homemade blackberry jam each year to St Paul's. This year, his allotment gifted him 90lbs of blackberries, and this is the second batch we have received.

Paul dropped in to the hostel last week and handed over his delicious preserves to Kim, our chef. We can't wait to see how Kim uses the jam in sweet treats for the residents!

We are blessed with such a wonderful community of supporters!

At St Paul's Hostel, we know that mental health, loneliness and homelessness are often closely linked. We also know that connection can be a powerful place to start.

Walk & Talk is simply a space to be around others, whether that means chatting, listening, or just enjoying the walk and a good coffee.

At St Paul’s, we see every day how connection often starts in small, unplanned ways; a hello, a shared moment, recognising a familiar face over time.

This week, the Government repealed the Vagrancy Act, ending legislation that had criminalised rough sleeping and begging for more than 200 years.

While this change won't end homelessness overnight, it marks an important shift towards recognising that people need support, compassion and opportunity, not punishment.

At St Paul's, that's what we've always believed.

Every day, we help people rebuild their lives through housing-led support, life skills, wellbeing services and opportunities to regain confidence and independence.

Because a safe place to stay is only the beginning.

A note from Erica Burlace, our CEO;

'As CEO of St Paul's. I meet a lot of people, and I don't shout about it.
Most of us go about our days, do our best, work conscientiously, ambitiously even.

Working life is people, it’s partnership, it’s empowering each other to do better.
But we're just doing our jobs.

A few weeks ago, I met Frank (and his partner Anne). Frank is one of the founding partners of St Paul's, almost 50 years ago, when his parish was Ronkswood, when he had 3 young children and an entirely patient and by accounts, a formidable late wife.

Back then, when posed with the reality of homelessness, he listened and stood up in a crowded room, and volunteered to learn, to do more than was expected of him.

He's a solutions man. Operating in the grey, he found a way to make a building barely fit for purpose, work. He faced social, financial, and political barriers head-on with a strong intent and a formidable set of values, buoyed by a volunteer from every parish, for every day in the month.

Frank is proof that there is a solution behind the barrier, you just need to keep moving forwards.

Thank you Frank. You lifted me, and because we’re solutions people, we found your phone.'

Today we say thank you and good luck to Sara as she heads off to pastures new. 💙

For the past six years, Sara has been an important part of the St Paul's family, helping people move from homelessness into homes where they can rebuild their lives. Her kindness, professionalism and determination have made a real difference to so many people.

Although we'll miss her, we're delighted that we'll continue working together in different ways, meaning the people who need support most will still benefit from Sara's care and expertise.

Thank you for everything you've done, Sara. We wish you every happiness and success in your new role. 💙🏡
