Today we marked the fourth anniversary of the war in Ukraine by proudly raising the Ukrainian flag above the Civic Centre as a show of solidarity with Ukrainians everywhere.

We were honoured to be joined by some of the Ukrainian guests our community has welcomed to Wychavon since the conflict began.

A minute’s silence was held to remember all those who have lost their lives, been displaced or continue to suffer as a result of Russia’s illegal invasion of the country.

We are grateful for everything everyone across Wychavon has done to show compassion, kindness and the hand of friendship to those who have fled the fighting and sought to rebuild their lives in the safety of our wonderful district.

While we hope 2026 will be the year peace returns to Ukraine, we are also prepared to continue to stand by our Ukrainian friends for as long as it takes.

With your help, we are currently supporting more than 350 Ukrainians - and have supported more than 500 since the start of the war. But more are arriving all the time as the bombardment of Ukraine’s villages, towns and cities continues.

Cllr Mark Goodge, Chairman of Wychavon, said: “By raising this flag today, we recognise the lives lost, stand firm with all those whose lives have been changed by this war, including those who have sought sanctuary locally, and reaffirm that peace, security and justice will prevail.”
