Chris from Worcester is turning a special anniversary into support for local families when they need it most. She’ll be taking part in this year’s Worcester City Run to mark 10 years since she lost her mum and best friend, Ruth. 💙

Chris said: “Training for the Worcester City 10K began back in March, and although it's been going well, it hasn't been without its setbacks.

“The reason I'm pushing myself is because this year marks 10 years since I lost my beautiful mum. She wasn't just my mum. She was my best friend.

“To honour her memory, I'm running the Worcester City 10K while raising money for St Richard's Hospice, a charity that will always hold a special place in my heart. The care and support they provide to patients and their families is truly incredible, and this is my way of giving something back.”

Thank you, Chris. What a special way to turn love and remembrance into support for other local families: www.justgiving.com/page/chris10kmfundraiser

Abbie has chosen to keep her memories of her beloved nan close with a very special tattoo inspired by a sketch her nan made of the hospice's garden. 💙

Pat was cared for at St Richard’s for two weeks before she died at the age of 90 and loved being out in the gardens with her family.

Abbie said: “Nan loved crafts and she loved gardening. She was a doer who was always doing something with her hands.

"Naturally, when she was admitted, Nan wasn't feeling her best self. She was more tired and had less energy, but going outside again really helped her to bloom. She was happy to be in the garden, it really perked her up! She asked for something to draw with, and the nurses were amazing in helping with this."

Pat sketched our gardens and one of the giraffes from our 2018 sculpture trail. Abbie has based her tattoo on her nan’s sketch of the giraffe.

Abbie said: “The tattoo is a special memory of being outside with Nan, which is something I’ll hold on to forever. She came into her own out there. She was being funny and humorous. All the family came together, even my uncle’s dog.

“The hospice gave the best kind of end to Nan’s life and I’m so grateful. They helped us to make memories. One day, I came to visit and could hear Elvis playing in the corridor. Nan loved Elvis and she’d been helped into one of the whirlpool bath spa suites, where she was listening to her favourite music.

“Everyone was amazing and we couldn’t have asked for anything better.”

Ruth from Worcester knows just how much hospice care can mean to a family. On Sunday 13 September, she’ll be taking part in the Worcester City Run in memory of her much-loved dad, Eric. 💙

Ruth said: “My wonderful dad received five weeks of fantastic care at St Richard’s Hospice. This invaluable support allowed us to focus simply on being a family after a very difficult period in hospital.

“The hospice team even came together to create a special Christmas meal for our whole family.

“I’m deeply grateful to the entire team for their incredible dedication, and I intend to support the hospice for the rest of my life. We’re truly fortunate to have such an amazing service available here in Worcester.”

Thank you to Ruth for running to support more local families facing similar journeys: www.justgiving.com/page/ruth-mcall-49

This Saturday, Emily will remember her friend Linda by taking on an incredible feat of endurance – a backyard ultramarathon.

Emily said: “I love to run. Not just run, but run and run and keep running for fun. Going out and running for eight hours on a Saturday isn’t unusual for me.

“I lost my wonderful friend Linda last year. She was more than just a friend; she was my manager for years and one of my biggest supporters. But it’s safe to say we didn’t have running in common!

“I miss her and wanted to find a way to thank St Richard’s, the charity who supported her in her final months.

“I’ve decided to do the Rasselbock Backyard Ultra on 5 September in her honour. She would have laughed at my craziness, but this feels like a great challenge to commemorate a strong and fearless lady who brought so much to my life.

“The premise is simple: the event has no fixed length in time or distance; you just have to run the same 4.161-mile loop every hour and you run until you can’t run anymore. The winner is found when they are the last runner standing. The event may last 10 hours or it may last 80 hours, you just never know what will happen.

“I’m running for Linda and I’m going to try and be that last woman standing for her!”

A Farmers Ball held in Evesham has raised an amazing £22,500 for our care in memory of Charlie Latham.

Charlie was supported by St Richard’s at home and on our in-patient unit before he died in August 2024. The event was organised by his brother Mike and a committee of friends and supporters from the Studley farming community who wanted to honour Charlie’s memory.

With 210 guests, live music, an auction and a spectacular fireworks display, the evening brought people together to celebrate Charlie’s life while supporting hospice care for local people and their loved ones.

Thank you to everyone who organised, attended and donated. Your kindness and generosity will help us provide care, support and compassion when it matters most.

Every trekker has their own reason for taking on our Great Wall of China challenge. Here's the story behind Jane's decision to go the extra mile for hospice care that has meant a lot in her village of Fladbury.

“My friend Jenny died at St Richard’s almost two years ago and her husband Andy put a leaflet for the trek through my door with some gentle encouragement to think about it.

“I decided it would be a great adventure and a personal challenge; at 74, I’m sure I’ll be the oldest participant in the group.

“I’m lucky enough to be healthy and well but not everyone has that privilege. I enjoy keeping fit and I’m hoping for a sense of achievement when I’ve finished the trek, both personally and from raising money to benefit others.

“In six months, I lost four friends from the village who all spent time at the hospice in their final hours. I know they were cared for beautifully and respectfully, and they’ll be on my shoulder motivating me every step of the way.

“St Richard’s is a charity close to everyone’s hearts in the village, and they’ve been incredibly supportive of my fundraising. I’ve managed to raise over £5,000 and I’ve used it as an opportunity to raise awareness of St Richard’s services, like the grief counselling they’ve offered Andy and the support for his daughter from the family support team.

“To anyone considering taking on a trek, I’d say don’t be overwhelmed by the fundraising because people are very generous.

“I’ve had great support from Sofia at St Richard's and the travel company. Everything’s organised for you and that means I can take on something I wouldn’t have done alone. I’ll also be with a group of like-minded people. I’ve loved getting to know them and there’s a common bond between us.”
