He's done it! Joe Hemming has crossed the finish line in Bristol after running more than 200 miles along the River Severn in just six days. 🙌

We're in absolute awe of Joe's resilience and commitment to completing this challenge, despite unplanned detours (where the path wasn't accessible), chest-high stinging nettles and some very wet weather.

Today marks a year to the day that Joe's dad, Robert, died at St Richard's Hospice, so our thoughts are with the whole family as they mark this emotional milestone. 💙

We're so grateful that Joe has chosen to remember his dad by fundraising in this way. You can still support him by visiting https://ow.ly/kpag50Z9TsT.

We’re getting football fever here at St Richard’s as we gear up for the World Cup - and we’d love local organisations to join us!

We have our own World Cup Sweepstake, where for a donation you can allocate teams to colleagues.

How it works:
> Sign up to receive your free downloadable kit, including flags and a game tracker
> Collect a donation from each of your colleagues. We recommend a minimum donation of £5 or £10 per team.
> Cut up the countries from the sheet and randomly allocate each person who has donated a country
> Enjoy the summer of sport.
> Donate 25% of the winnings to the winner and donate the remaining amount to the hospice – or alternatively, source a prize and donate all the prize pot to the hospice.

Enjoy Sunday lunch with The Archers actress Sunny Ormonde this September 💙

As The Archers celebrate their 75th anniversary, join much-loved actress Sunny Ormonde for an afternoon of great food, engaging conversation, behind-the-scenes stories, and a Q&A.

The afternoon will begin with an entertaining and insightful talk from Sunny, who has played the outrageous and wayward Lillian Bellam for 26 years. After the talk, enjoy a delicious Sunday lunch prepared by our talented hospice chef and take part in a raffle.

All proceeds will support the compassionate care provided by St Richard's Hospice.

Caring for a loved one who is unwell can be rewarding, but it can also be emotionally, physically, and practically challenging. That's why, this Carers' Week, we'd like to let you know what our Family Support Team can offer carers of our patients.

The team can provide one-to-one support through check-in telephone calls, virtual support, counselling and face-to-face emotional support that is tailored to what the carer needs.

They also offer a friendly and welcoming support group called Tulips Carers Café. This group offers carers the chance to meet others in similar situations, share experiences and practical tips, and take time for reflection.

If you're caring for someone known to St Richard’s Hospice, please don't hesitate to contact our Family Support Referral Line on 01905 763963.

There's a chance to cheer on Joe Hemming today, as his 220-mile run along the Severn Way in memory of his dad reaches Worcester.

Joe is hoping to reach Browns on the Quay between 3pm and 4pm this afternoon. At this point, he'll already have run an incredible 141 miles. He'll leave from Browns tomorrow morning at about 6am for the final two stages of his challenge.

Come along and give Joe some encouragement as his run nears it's emotional end in Bristol, where he'll cross the finish line a year to the day that his dad, Robert, died at St Richard's.

Our final story for Volunteers' Week comes from Anne, one of our Spiritual Care Volunteers.

Anne said: "“I see my role as giving people the opportunity to be listened to. It’s a chance to fulfil the spiritual and emotional need we all have for connection.

“Although I’m meeting them at the end of their lives, I try to look past the illness to see the person they still are.

“There’s a sense of respecting people and letting them know they matter, adding faith only if it’s appropriate.

“ I feel this is what I’m supposed to be doing.”

Thank you for following just some of the stories of our incredible volunteers. If you feel inspired to volunteer, visit www.strichards.org.uk/volunteering

Today's volunteering story comes from Rachel, a Family Support Volunteer in the community.

Rachel said: “I retired last year after 40 years as a nurse and more than 30 years in A&E in Worcester.

“Being an A&E nurse means you form relationships quickly and attempt to put people at ease. Those are skills that I try to transfer to this volunteer role.

“The clients I work with could be patients or family members, either before or after a bereavement.

“In my role, I can be there to listen to them talk about anything – it’s completely led by them.”
