🛫They're off! Our sixteen intrepid trekkers have left for their five-day challenge along one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

After being kindly dropped at the airport by Premier Minibus Travel, the group fly to Beijing tonight to embark on their trek along a remote section of the Great Wall of China.

This adventurous bunch have already fundraised over £58,000 for our care!

The trekkers will cover just under 50km in five days, with a total ascent and descent of over 3,000m.

💙 Twenty years of constant care

Since our purpose-built hospice opened 20 years ago, our Living Well team has been able to support patients to live as fully as possible with an incurable illness.

The team offers a programme of exercise sessions, wellbeing sessions and workshops in our warm and welcoming Living Well Centre.

Ann, who attends our sessions, said: “I've always felt very safe stepping through the doors of St Richard's. Absolutely everyone I've met has been very caring, informative and helped me to cope with my condition.

“The class was excellent in every way possible and the support I was offered I know will help me to go forward in a more positive way.”

For twelve years, the Ingram family has remembered a beloved auntie and sister by fundraising for our care, raising over £13,000 in the process.

The family's latest challenge is particularly special as they take on a 50km walk between our charity shops in Kidderminster, Worcester and Malvern to celebrate what would have been Mel Baker's 50th birthday.

Sabrina Ingram said: “Mel is missed so much every day, and this is our way of remembering her and thanking St Richard’s Hospice for everything they did to look after Mel and the family in her final weeks.

“This December will mark 12 years since we lost Mel. We think of her every day.”

💙 Twenty years of constant care

Supporting patients in their own homes is a huge part of what we do. Many patients who have been cared for on our In-patient Unit over the last 20 years have been cared for by us at home first.

Helping someone fulfil their wish to die at home and supporting families in this can mean a huge amount, as Sara explains:

“Mum absolutely wanted to stay at home and we wanted it for her. We would have moved heaven and earth to make it happen but I don’t know if it would have been possible without the support of St Richard’s.

“The team saw where the gaps were, what help we needed and took a hold of the situation. Suddenly it all felt less frightening, intimidating and horrific.

“It was still physically hard to care for Mum but we had the practical, medical and emotional support we needed from the hospice. We didn’t have to worry that we were doing the right thing for Mum.

“Reflecting on it now, we wouldn’t change a single thing. I know to my core it was the right thing.”
