We are taking part in the BQC!

Have your say on local hospital care by taking part in the Big Quality Conversation 2026.

Patients and their carers, families and friends are being asked to share what matters most to them, to help shape the plans for improvements to their experience and quality of care in Worcestershire Hospitals, and Sensory Matters Worcestershire are holding a session where you can learn more about the BQC survey.

This morning, on my walk to work, a truck unloading building materials was blocking the pavement. As I approached with my white symbol cane, the builders told me I would need to go around it and into the busy road.

I explained that I couldn't see and asked if someone could help me safely get around the truck. They immediately did.

When I first started using my white symbol cane, I worried it would make me look vulnerable. Today reminded me that it does the opposite. It helps me communicate my needs, gives others the opportunity to understand, and enables me to ask for support when I need it.

My cane isn't a symbol of weakness. It's a symbol of independence, confidence and self-advocacy.

On White Cane Awareness Day, I'm proud to share a picture of me with my cane.

Want to get hands-on with the latest braille technology?

To celebrate National Braille Week, we’re hosting a Braille Tech Event in partnership with HumanWare. Come along to try out the newest braille devices, ask questions and see what’s possible with today’s technology.

It's only 3 weeks until Befriending Week 2026 1-7 November!

Sensory Matters Worcestershire are a member of Befriending Networks and this year we are inviting all our volunteers to 'Connect Over A Cuppa', a free, online event for volunteers across the UK.

We are on the look out for Fundraising Volunteers in all parts of Worcestershire, to help support our Fundraising Committee raise vital funds to allow us to keep supporting our blind, partially sighted, d/Deaf, hard of hearing and dual sensory loss clients with information, advice, guidance and social opportunities.

It's Positive Ageing Week, so let's celebrate the experience and contribution of older people.

Alan is blind and is one of our 83 years old clients, who chose to make a difference to our Sensory Matters Worcestershire community, by completing a sponsored walk at his care home in Kidderminster. He managed to raise in excess of £518 for our charity, which will help us to continue to provide support, information, advice, guidance and social opportunities for our clients.
