The originals of these images have gone to the City Council for archiving.
In 2024 you'll have the Kepax Bridge but over a century ago there was the Kepax Ferry going from Gheluvelt Park to the Hallow side of the river.

From the Pump House Environment Centre vaults - if you are a regular visitor to Gheluvelt Park you will be familiar with the lovely little woodland just by the centre and the cycle path. Here we have photos of the initial planting circa early 2000's
In 2023 we celebrated National Play Day in this woodland with a pop up playground. The trees are big enough to hang hammocks between them now.

From the Pump House Environment Centre vaults - every Wednesday a group called the Pitchcroft Pacers met for a heart health walk around Pitchcroft. They met outside our front door in the park and came back to the centre for a cuppa afterwards, here we have a birthday party in their honour circa 2009 ish!

From the Pump House Environment Centre vaults - did you know that the Pump House had it's own WI group?
They were an active part of our community and here are some great photos when they spent a morning with the DWT wardens in the workshop making bee hotels, bird boxes and hibernaculums

The iconic tree of Gheluvelt Park - the Cedar of Lebanon - has stood in the grounds of the waterworks for well over a century.
In the first photo you can see it's the only tree near the Pump House-way before the park had a successful tree planting scheme which provided established wooded areas in the riverside conservation area.
The Severn Trent treatment works panel found in the Pump House cellar during the refurbishment shows the tree on the waterworks map. This panel was on display in the upstairs corridor by the meeting room.
The cedar was cut down in 2019 due to worries of disease and safety concerns.
And the last image was designed for a Heart of our Park festival which sadly didn't get funding but the image is more poignant now the Pump House Environment Centre is closing.

From the Pump House Environment Centre vaults - who remembers ?
It was thought up by the Worcester City Council community safety office Jude, our volunteer and community coordinator Anda and local digital artist Al Pagan over coffee in the Pump House cafe.
It campaigned against the environmental litter problem of dog poo on our streets but we used to hold a Bark in the Park in Gheluvelt Park, as a thank you to all the responsible owners who picked up after their dogs.
It was a free event and had a dog pawtrait service, run by our amazing community volunteers, a mutt memorial wall to remember the park's canine community that we'd loved and lost (again built by an amazing community volunteer) and a series of classes including doggy runaround quiz and best in show - with prizes and rosettes of course!

Events...we've had a few.
Who remembers building teddy bear shelters in the back garden?
Or the teddy safari of 2006?
Or the pop up playgrounds and cardboard citizens assemblies in the Pump House garden and woodland?
Or making shoes out of reclaimed materials?
The Worcester Show was out the front in the riverside conservation area from 2012 to 2019 before moving to Pitchcroft.
There was Pedal in the Park and the infamous duck race in 2007
We've held reuse events such as the successful Social Sew and Sewers clothes swaps and social sew ins for almost 10 years and calculated that 2 tonnes of clothing was diverted from landfill and reused in that time.
Thank you everyone for supporting and creating these events.
