The reason why we started Barbourne in Bloom was for the residents of Sharman Close to bring some joy to their lives. One resident described the grounds as a green desert and said that it gave them nothing to look forward to.

We knew that we could do something to help.

This wonderful resident told us that her favourite flower was daffodils so we have planted hundreds of them so that they were flower for weeks and weeks in the spring.

We are so happy that Sharman Close has being judged by the RHS ‘Its Your Neighourhood’ and been awarded ‘Level 3 Advancing!’ 🏆

Working with residents and with the support of Platform Housing, we have planted raised flowerbeds as a central focal point and also planted lots of spring bulbs. Residents have also made their own properties brighter with beautiful floral displays! 🌸

There is still a lot to do, so today we planted crocuses around the trees and tulips 🌷 and more daffodils across the site - we hope next spring will be a blaze of colour! Alan also prepared tubes for filling with brash to provide bug hotels! 👏😊

The RHS judge visited Sharman Close today where with community funding from , the hard work of residents and support of local green councillors the beautiful new planters have flourished! 🌸
They have provided a wonderful focal point in the community garden, added seasonal interest and are attractive to bees 🐝 and butterflies! 🦋 We are keeping our fingers crossed but the beautiful sunshine certainly put everyone in a good mood! ☀️

We recently planted the new planters for residents to enjoy when the weather improves. We have planted for bees and butterflies with plants that will flower throughout the summer, and provide pollen and beautiful fragrance to the residents sitting in the adjacent benches 🐝🦋
