Francis’ Children’s Society (SFCS) is a children's charity and adoption agency which seeks to make a difference to vulnerable children’s lives by finding them permanent families. Based in Milton Keynes, we operate across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire and parts of Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. As a registered charity and limited company, our work is entirely chari

table and non-profit making. Our Adoption Connections service offers an open-door policy. Currently in the UK, there are over 4,000 children in need of an adoptive family, and we welcome all kinds of adopters for all kinds of children, regardless of age, race, cultural background, religion, marital status or sexual orientation. As well as finding new families for children awaiting adoption, we offer an extensive range of support services for adopters and their children, such as counselling, Theraplay® and family support events. Our Birth Connections service offers advice, support and counselling to birth parents and other family members who have lost a child to adoption and are struggling to come to terms with that loss. We also, through our Building Connections service, offer family tracing services and appropriate counselling to adults who were adopted as children.

I started working for Brain Tumour Research just over a year ago and I am deeply saddened by the stories of the families who have lost loved ones to this awful disease. I am filled with admiration for those still battling the disease in the hope of kinder, more effective treatments and the hope that one day there will be a cure.

This year, my daughter and I are taking part in the London Walk of Hope, alongside one of my best friends, Susan Gillette Coles, who lost her nephew to the disease last year. Jack was 16 when he was diagnosed and after two major brain surgeries, followed by intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy, he sadly lost his battle at the tender age of 21.
It costs £2,740 to fund one day of research and this is the target I would like to achieve.
