MINDFUL ART CLUB – MAKE A PLUM BLOSSOM BOOKMARK

N.B. PLEASE BOOK YOUR PLACE BY EMAILING THE TUTOR DIRECT : [email protected]

WEDNESDAY 18TH MARCH 2026 (2 – 4 PM)

D’Urberville Centre, Wool, BH20 6DL

Join Genevieve for a kind, supportive art session that suits all abilities. Plum is the first to blossom on the cusp of spring and is revered in East Asian culture as a symbol representing strength, hope and beauty. The flowers will even bloom in snow!

In this session you will use Chinese brushes and watercolours to paint blossoms on unsized Xuan paper. Genevieve will demonstrate several ways to approach this. There’s even a cheat’s trick for anyone finding the finer lines harder to paint, so don’t be put off coming if you are not a confident painter.

You can select your best blossoms to cut out and collage onto a blank bookmark, then choose your coloured tassel. Perhaps you can make one for yourself and one for a friend?

This is a friendly group that is open to anyone who has been touched by cancer; whether you’ve experienced cancer yourself in the past, are currently undergoing treatment, are in recovery, or are close to and perhaps caring for someone undergoing treatment, these sessions are designed for you.

LIMITED PLACES

Please note: there is a change to the way you book a place for Mindful Art Club. Please do not use Eventbrite. Instead, email Genevieve direct: [email protected]

Join Genevieve for a kind supportive art session that suits all abilities. The heart is a universal symbol of affection for others, but is also a reminder to practice self-care.

In this session you will be experimenting with watercolour paints and pencils, charcoal, Chinese ink and wax resist. Genevieve will demonstrate ways to use these materials expressively to decorate hearts on paper. You will be able to make a simple garland to take home.

Whether you’re a first timer or a seasoned creative, Mindful Art Club gives you permission to work at your own level. You can copy Genevieve’s examples, or you can let your imagination loose with your own designs.

Genevieve’s Mindful Art Club is available to anyone who has been touched by cancer; whether you’ve experienced cancer yourself in the past, are currently undergoing treatment, are in recovery, or are close to and perhaps caring for someone undergoing treatment, these sessions are designed for you.

MINDFUL ART CLUB - MANDALAS AND ZENTANGLES

WEDNESDAY 21ST JANUARY 2026 (2 – 4 PM)

Welcome to 2026!

Let’s start the year with some gentle creativity; join Genevieve for the first session of her Mindful Art Club where you can spend two hours in the friendly, supportive company of like-minded friends.

You will be colouring mandalas and drawing Zentangles. These are both techniques for grounding us and relieving anxiety. If you’ve not come across Zentangles before, they are easy to do and suit all abilities. You do not need to be good at drawing! A Zentangle relies on patterns; they’re a kind of mindful doodling. The patterns can be anything from dots, lines, swirls, spirals to more complex patterns that require a little more focus. Genevieve will bring examples to show you, and help to get you started on this addictive hobby!

Mandalas first appeared in a Hindu text known as the Rig Veda (circa 1500 – 300 BCE) and are circular patterns that represent the universe. Nowadays, drawing and colouring mandalas are acknowledged as a meditation tool and a way to “switch off”. When drawing a mandala, you start from the centre and work outwards. When colouring a mandala, you begin around the outside edge and work towards the centre.

Genevieve’s Mindful Art Club is available to anyone who has been touched by cancer: whether you’ve experienced cancer yourself in the past, are currently undergoing treatment, are in recovery, or are close to and perhaps caring for someone undergoing treatment, these sessions are specially for you.
