🌳 This patch of woodland at the east of the nature reserve connects to the public footpath which extends through beautiful old parkland on the neighbouring estate and out to Boulge Church (known as the Church in the Fields).
🌳 Herne Wood has one ancient oak near the centre which for the past 60 years or so has been accompanied by its offspring. The younger generation of oaks established when this area transformed from pasture to naturally regenerated woodland.

One of our series of photos from a recent misty walk.

There are so many interesting features in these areas of species-rich rough grassland and scrub, with pockets of naturally regenerated trees and islands of brambles. This meadow seems to invite you to wait and watch, without concern for time.
