Foxburrow Nature Reserve- Suffolk Wildlife Trust

Foxburrow Nature Reserve- Suffolk Wildlife Trust Celebrating local wildlife. Suffolk Wildlife Trust is the county's leading conservation charity.

A mosaic of rewilded farmland and wildlife habitats located near to Woodbridge. Visit in spring or early summer for birdsong, wildflowers and gambolling lambs. Little owl are sometimes seen in daylight perched on posts, blackcap, whitethroat and garden warbler can be seen in the woods and hedges, skylark nest in the meadows and spotted flycatcher and pied wagtail flit around the old farm buildings

. The meadows are grazed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Sandlings sheep flock. Hedges, which have been coppiced and replanted, provide a great source of winter food and act as wildlife corridors allowing insects, birds and mammals to travel from place to place. Foxburrow was bought with support from The Heritage Lottery Fund. At the end of 2021, farming ceased, and we're working with volunteers, Universities and other organisations to monitor how nature will reclaim the former fields. Our House Rules
We love to hear from Suffolk Wildlife Trust members and supporters, to see your photos and hear your ideas and suggestions. All we ask is that users are respectful of others and keep their posts polite, civil and suitable for all ages. We do not tolerate any content that is offensive or abusive including material that is obscene, violent, aggressive, argumentative, harassing, defamatory, unlawful, insulting, indecent or otherwise objectionable. This includes any language that can be construed as offensive, sexist, racist or homophobic. Please note that we retain the right to hide or remove any comments that we consider inappropriate. This extends to spamming and any material judged to be off-topic in subject-specific areas. We retain the right to block individuals who ignore this policy and post inappropriate content on our page. Moderation
In general, we don’t moderate posts on our page or groups – except when offensive language is used or libellous allegations are made. We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is a last resort and very unusual, our position is that any post containing libellous accusations should be removed. If an individual posts content contrary to our House Rules (see above) then we reserve the right to block that person from the page.

Summer solstice celebrations, home ed style 🌳

With the summer solstice this Sunday we celebrated early in the woods today! Gathering flowers from the garden on the way to the woods, we then got stuck into flower wreaths (traditional for the summer solstice), with some very impressive results 🌻🌷🌹🌸🌼
Of course we also had our firm favourites of swings, hammocks, games in the pit and rope bridges, and also a taste of elderflower tea πŸ«–

Thank goodness for trees on a day like today πŸ₯΅πŸŒ³

A scorching day today, not that you'd know it in the cooling shade of the trees at holiday club! Sticks were whittled, swings were swung on, Hapa-Zome bandanas made, scrummy rocky road gobbled down, and nature enjoyed as it should be πŸͺ΅πŸͺ’πŸ–ŒπŸŽ¨πŸ«πŸŒΏ

A painting and building day today πŸŽ¨πŸ›

Our Young Wardens braved the heat today to get stuck in to practical jobs on the reserve πŸ’ͺ we finished painting the gates, so they'll blend in better, and then built and put up three new bird boxes in the woods. It's a bit late for this year, but hopefully next year they'll be occupied!

Home eds not letting the rain stop us β˜”οΈπŸŒ§

A wet Wild in the Week 8 - 11 today, but we pushed through with the help of some tarps for shelter! First order of business was putting them up, then we got the swing up, hammocks in place, craft box out and woodworking gear in action... As the saying goes, there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad planning!

Teamwork makes the "nature" dream work 🌿πŸ’ͺ

Young Wardens today and we were creating for a change! Half the group took lavender and rosemary cuttings, and the other half built a frame to protect the seedlings from the attentions of deer, before bringing the two together in the flower bed 🌻
After lunch we got our paint on, sorting one of the gates on to the reserve compartments so it was a little less conspicuous, the whole gang mucking in to get it done in double quick time πŸ–Œβ±οΈ
