WOODBRIDGE RUGBY – CLUB STATEMENT

Everyone at Woodbridge Rugby Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Kaylem Scopes, aged just 16, and stands alongside our footballing friends and the wider local community at this heartbreaking time.

Kaylem bravely battled leukaemia and was awaiting the possibility of a bone marrow transplant. A talented young footballer, he progressed through the youth teams to the Ipswich Town Academy, giving his family so much to be proud of.

Our thoughts, love and deepest condolences are with Liam, Jenna and all the Scopes family, their friends and everyone affected by this tragic loss.

Rest in peace, Kaylem. Forever 16.

1XV LEADERSHIP TEAM 2026/27

Some exciting news from Woodbridge Rugby Club that we wanted to share with you all.

We’re delighted to welcome Connor O’Reilly into our 1XV set-up as a Player / Coach, supporting JP Hart as we continue to build on the progress made last season.

Connor came through our junior section and played alongside many of our senior squad members before moving on to Bury and then Colchester, helping both clubs achieve promotion and progress into the national leagues.

He is also a regular member of the Army 1st XV, having represented them at Twickenham on multiple occasions in the Army v Navy fixture. Connor brings a wealth of experience, a strong rugby background and a real understanding of what it means to wear the shirt. We’re delighted to welcome him back to Woodbridge.

JP continues as Head Coach, following a fantastic first season in charge, leading the club to promotion and playing a key role in driving our continued development.

Congratulations to Archie Walker, who takes on the role of 1XV Captain for the 2026/27 season. A great opportunity to lead from the front, set the standards and embody the Warrior spirit that runs through this club.

Jon Brooks (JB) also continues as Team Manager, providing the organisation and support that keep our senior men’s set-up moving forward.

With experience, leadership and a shared commitment to the club, we have a strong group ready to lead us into the new season. The hard work continues, the standards remain high, and we’ll be looking to bring that Warrior spirit every time we take the field.

Good luck to JP, Connor, Archie, JB and the whole squad for the season ahead.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the club this Saturday as we take on Norwich.

One club. One team. Warrior spirit.
