Beauty and the Beast Panto this morning at 11am 😍
So proud of Leon - he stayed for 2 hours!! This was not a relaxed performance and it took him a while to get used to the sound (it was pretty loud!) and he really enjoyed it! 🥰
The wheelchair seat was at the back of the stalls but as you can see we had a good view and it was a good space for Leon so he felt comfortable. He sat through the 20 minute break but afterwards needed his iPad to watch his favourite game simultaneously and then he started to get restless so he asked to leave at 1pm. He only missed the last 30 minutes so this was such an experience that we were able to have today! ❤️
Sharing this online because I need to document this experience for Leon and for the rest of us, it was an experience we were able to share and these have been few and far between for the past few years.
It’s also important to remember that just because he managed to stay for most of it this one time does not mean the same thing will happen again. It still meant one adult had to leave the performance early and a lot of things had to align for him to be able to enjoy this.
For example, a good nights sleep, a relaxing breakfast, no rushing to leave, a few days of reviewing the programme in advance (he held it up during the performance to point to the performer on stage and in the programme book!), a morning performance, a wheelchair seat in a good place for him, a short wait (by the time we got there - snow was not a problem, the slush was annoying though!), snacks readily available, a small group of family faces supporting him (ie the three of us), his favourite toy and iPad to hand. There may well have been more that I did not notice but it all adds up doesn’t it.
The last of Leon’s birthday celebrations 🎁🎈🎉
And this year, it was a success! x
