Wujcio Andrzej saw Leon this summer, with Leon’s teenage wheelchair. Leon currently uses a bespoke manual wheelchair with electric wheels that allows him to *choose* where he wants to go and how quickly to get there!

As a manual wheelchair user all his life, Leon has always struggled to push himself as his cerebral palsy affects his arms as well as his legs. This chair gives him the option of moving quickly as he can switch between manual and electric and it has really opened up his life! Not only is he more independent but he is also showing us his teenage personality, cheekiness and all 🙂

This current chair is designed to fit Leon from the age of 13 to 16 or maybe 17. It’ll cover his teenage years but he will outgrow it.

Wujcio asked how he could help as he could see how Leon was interacting more and after discussions about the various equipment Leon uses on a daily basis, and the realisation that Leon is still growing and will outgrow his current chair, he decided he wanted to raise money for Leon’s adult wheelchair and future equipment needs.

As Leon’s Mama, I manage Leon’s accounts so I wanted to share something on this platform that I am incredibly proud of as a progression of my advocating role, inspired by our experiences with disability and caring as a family.

I have found a fulfilling job that inspires me everyday and one that has allowed me to use my experiences and knowledge to help support other children and other families 🥰. This recording is incredibly personal and also rewarding for me to share and hopefully inspire others to support carers too.

Wishing the happiest of birthdays to a not-so-little-anymore Leon 😘

As loud and as stubborn as any teen I know ;) makes me incredibly proud. He knows his mind and he will find a way to tell you what that is!

Last year, Leon made big strides with his independence. He’s getting used to the option of switching between manual wheels and electric with an outdoorsy wheelchair and he finally received official recognition of his autistic self. This next year brings the introduction of hoists and more effective communication, if he’ll let us into his world :)

Happy and in charge! Bring on the teen years 🫶
