This 2026, Dementia Pathfinders is proud to support the theme of ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’.
There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled and more than 1 million in the UK. Carers are so important for providing daily support, advocacy and care for people living with dementia. Yet many carers experience loneliness, stress and daily challenges that can be difficult to talk about. This is why it is crucial to build communities where feel safe and supported.
Our Dementia Conversations offers a space for people living with dementia, carers, and anyone interested in to listen, learn and share with one another. These monthly online conversations explore issues of belief, attitude and need, creating opportunities for peer connection and shared reflection.
Alongside this, our Dementia Suffragettes carers support group meets every Monday from 4pm to 5pm (UK time), providing a welcoming space for carers and former carers to share experiences, practical tips and lift each other’s spirits.
Building carer friendly communities is something we can all be part of. Check in with any carers in your life, give them an open space to talk. While not everyone has the opportunity to step away from caring responsibilities, where possible, help create opportunities for carers to focus on their own wellbeing, and spend time doing the things that matter to them.
On the Dementia Pathfinders Marketplace, carers can also find The Caregivers Journal, and Feel Calm Today, our little book of wisdom featuring inspiring reflections from caregivers.
