Rotary Club of Tettenhall

Rotary Club of Tettenhall We are a group of business people based in Tettenhall in Wolverhampton working within Rotary to help

The Rotary Club of Tettenhall was founded in 1982 with the support of our mother club The Rotary Club of Wolverhampton. With the support of the people of Wolverhampton and notable celebrities such as Honorary Club Member Lenny Henry our Club has raised close to £400,000 over the last 20 years and we have made donations to over 250 different charities and good causes such as Compton Hospice, the Co

unty Air Ambulance and Macmillan Nurses. In addition to the money that has been raised our members have also given thousands of hours of service to the local community through activities ranging from bringing the magic of Christmas to children with our Santa Sleigh to the provision of mentoring services in local schools.

🎉 We were honoured this week to welcome Derrick Anderson CBE, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, to our Rotary meeting in Tettenhall! It was a privilege to host His Majesty’s personal representative and learn more about the important work of the Lieutenancy ✨

As the King's representative across Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton, the Lord-Lieutenant plays a key role in supporting civic, voluntary, charitable, and cultural initiatives throughout the region.

We are grateful for his insights into the Lieutenancy’s work supporting communities, volunteers and civic life across Wolverhampton. A great boost for our club and our city! 👏🌟

There's a story behind the splash of purple you've been seeing around Wolverhampton over the last few weeks showing how a small Tettenhall club can help to change the world.

💜 Why the Purple Crocus?
Every spring, thousands of purple crocuses bloom in parks and gardens across the country, planted by local Rotary clubs. But these flowers aren't just for decoration—they represent a promise.

When a child receives the oral polio vaccine, their pinky finger is dipped in purple surgical ink to show they’ve been immunized. This "Purple Pinkie" has become a global symbol of a child’s safety from this paralyzing disease. We plant these bulbs to:
Raise Awareness: The vibrant purple serves as a living reminder of the fight to end polio.
Symbolize Hope: Just as the crocuses bloom after a long winter, they represent the world emerging from the shadow of polio.

🌍 Our Impact: We Are "This Close"
Rotary has been the driving force in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative since 1985. Back then, polio paralyzed nearly 1,000 children every single day across 125 endemic countries.

The progress has been nothing short of historic:
99.9% Reduction: Polio cases have plummeted worldwide.
Billions Protected: Over 3 billion children have received the vaccine thanks to Rotary and our partners.
Only Two Left: Today, wild poliovirus remains endemic in only two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan.

🏁 Let’s Finish the Job
We are in the "final mile," but this is often the hardest part of the journey. To ensure polio never returns, we must continue vaccinating children and monitoring for the virus in the environment. We cannot stop now.

How You Can Help:
1. Donate: Every £1 Rotary commits to polio eradication is matched 2nd-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Your £10 becomes £30!
2. Advocate: Share our posts! Use the hashtag to help us keep this mission in the public eye.
3. Join Us: Rotary is a community of action. Contact us to see how you can help plant crocuses or organize a fundraiser.

"If we stop now, polio could spread back across the world and paralyze 200,000 children every year within a decade."

Together, we can make history and ensure no child ever suffers from polio again.

Happy Mother’s Day from Tettenhall Rotary! 🌸

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible women who make our community—and our world—go round.

At Rotary, our guiding light is "Service Above Self." It’s a high standard to live by, but let’s be honest: Mums have been the masters of "Service Above Self" since day one.

Whether it’s late-night comfort, endless support, or the tireless work they do behind the scenes to help others, mothers embody the very heart of what we do. That natural drive to put others first and make a difference is exactly what makes Mums the perfect fit for Rotary

💐 Why Rotary is great for Mums:
* Impact: Use your skills to lead local and international charity projects.
* Community: Connect with like-minded people who share your heart for service.
* Flexibility: We’re a modern club that understands busy family schedules!

If you’re a Mum who is already making the world better every day, why not see how you can amplify that impact with us?

🎓 New Year Thanks to Wolverhampton University Rotaract! 🎓

As we step into 2026, the Rotary Club of Tettenhall would like to share a huge New Year thank you with the energetic and inspiring members of the University of Wolverhampton WLV Rotaract Society! 🎆✨

These fantastic young leaders gave their time and enthusiasm throughout the festive season, supporting our Santa Sleigh visits and charity collections. Whether shaking buckets, guiding Santa through the streets, or spreading festive cheer, their commitment made a real difference to our work this year.

🌍 Rotaract: Young Leaders Making Change

Rotaract brings together young adults dedicated to creating positive change locally and globally. Members of the Wolverhampton University Rotaract Club are not just volunteers — they are emerging community leaders who:
• Take Action: Identifying needs and delivering meaningful projects
• Develop Skills: Building leadership and professional experience
• Build Friendships: Connecting with a global network driven by Service Above Self

It’s inspiring to see students balancing their studies while giving back so generously. Their support helps us continue our work with food banks, youth groups, and vital community causes across Wolverhampton.

Thank you, Rotaractors — you are a credit to the University and to our city. Here’s to another year of leadership, service, and community spirit.

🏛️ New Year Thanks to Wolverhampton City Council! 🏛️

As we begin 2026, the Rotary Club of Tettenhall would like to share a heartfelt New Year thank you with the incredible Events and Licensing teams at Wolverhampton City Council. 🎆✨

Behind every Santa Sleigh appearance and every charity collection we run throughout the year is a dedicated group of council professionals working to support us — allowing us to focus on serving the community we love.

🤝 Partnerships That Truly Matter

Though much of their work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt across the whole city. By helping us coordinate our fundraising efforts, the Council becomes a direct partner in supporting food banks, youth groups, and community projects that change lives in Wolverhampton.

We know how demanding the festive season is for city teams, and we deeply appreciate the time, care, and effort they invest in helping us deliver joy and support where it’s needed most.

Thank you for everything you do to help us make a difference as we step confidently into the New Year.

❤️ Thank You for Making a Difference in Wolverhampton! ❤️

The Rotary Club of Tettenhall wants to send a heartfelt thank you to every single person who has donated to our Santa Sleigh appeal this year. Your generosity is what turns "Christmas cheer" into real, lasting support for our community.

🌟 100% Goes to Good Causes
We want our donors to know that 100% of every donation we receive is used to support good causes.

How do we do this?

Our Members: All administrative and organizational tasks are handled by and costs met by our dedicated club members.

Our Sponsors: Our generous local business partners help to cover the essential running costs of the sleigh.

This means that when you drop a coin in a bucket or donate online, you are directly funding food banks, youth projects, and other good causes.

✨ It’s Not Too Late to Help!
If you missed the sleigh or would like to make an extra contribution, our appeal is still open. Every pound helps us reach our goal of supporting those in need this winter.
