2497 (Cosford) Squadron was formed on 1st June 1971. However, when a new Air Training Corps Squadron is established, it is initially formed as a Detached Flight (DF) to a neighbouring squadron. It remains a Detached Flight until their number of enrolled cadets increases and is maintained. Once this is achieved, the status of Squadron is granted. hed Flight of 1130 (Wrekin) Squadron. In 1971, 1130 (Wrekin) DF became 2497 (Cosford) Squadron, under the command of Flight Lieutenant Pybus. Since its formation, the squadron has had many homes at RAF Cosford, as well as having had numerous Commanding Officers over the years.

Recently, we said goodbye to one of our Cadet Flight Sergeants as they progress with their future career in medicine.

Whilst in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, he achieved gold road marching 🥾(4x40km in Nijmegen), silver first aid 🩹 and the Method of Instruction qualification which he used towards teaching younger peers.

Good luck in the future, Cadet Flight Sergeant, and thank you for everything you did for the squadron! ✨

Today, cadets, volunteers, and trustees proudly took part in ’s annual Remembrance Sunday parade.

It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout - not only from the squadron, but from the whole village community.

The parade was attended by a number of dignitaries and representatives, including the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire (Shropshire Lieutenancy), the Station Commander and Station Warrant Officer from Royal Air Force Cosford, and members of the Albrighton and Donington Parish Council.

We were also proud to have one of our cadets and one of our volunteers perform The Last Post and Reveille, marking the occasion with great respect and professionalism.
