"I'd like to introduce you to Malcolm, my beloved late husband. Malcolm was a devoted and caring husband, and a wonderful, adoring father to Sophie. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the young age of 7, but he never let his condition define or limit him.

"Despite the challenges that came with his diagnosis, Malcolm remained dedicated to living his life fully, always staying on top of his health by attending all his medical appointments and managing his diabetes with great care.

"In January 2024, Malcolm tragically suffered a major heart attack, and although he fought bravely, we sadly lost him in July 2024 to the same cause. Throughout his life, Malcolm remained kind, compassionate, and drivenโ€”qualities that shone through in his work as a dedicated nurse. He deeply understood the risks that came with his illness but never let it stand in the way of his dreams or passions.

"Malcolm accomplished so much in his too-short life, leaving behind cherished memories of his travels, dedication, and love for his family. His strength and commitment will forever be an inspiration to those who knew and loved him."

Grace recently shared this touching tribute about her husband with us. The family had a collecting box at Malcolm's funeral and the donations have been passed to us, for which we're incredibly grateful.

The lovely team over at Retford Specsavers are digging out their fancy dress to take part in a 100-mile static bike ride to raise money for us this September.

Their incredible team are hoping to raise awareness of how diabetes can impact our overall health - and in particular our eye health. They're hoping to highlight just how important regular eye checks are to monitor any changes in your vision that could be linked to diabetes.

Join us in saying a massive good luck for the challenge. And if you want to donate, you can find their fundraising page here: https://orlo.uk/fundraising_8Vb3e

Weโ€™re excited to let you know about Pedal for Progress, our new virtual cycling challenge coming this October.

This is more than a bike ride. The money you raise will fund ground-breaking research, campaigns and crucial support for the millions of people living with diabetes, day in, day out.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Here's what our Head of Midlands and East of England region had to say about the challenge: "We are inviting people in the Midlands of all cycling abilities to take to the saddle and help raise vital funds for Diabetes UK this October by participating in our brand-new virtual cycling challenge Pedal for Progress. Pedal for Progress is an inclusive cycling challenge, encouraging people to take on diabetes one mile at a time by cycling 250 miles throughout October. The challenge takes place from October 1 to 31 and is suitable for everyone from complete beginners to seasoned cyclists. Participants are encouraged to take on the impressive distance and cycle to become stronger, healthier and pedal for progress towards a world where diabetes can do no harm."

Are you ready to change lives as you ride? ๐Ÿ’™
