🇸🇳📢 OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE SENEGAL GOVERNMENT
Following CAF’s decision to award Morocco 🇲🇦 the AFCON 2025 title and strip it from Senegal, the Prime Minister of Senegal issued the following statement: 👇
“🇸🇳 The Government of Senegal expresses its deep dissatisfaction with the decision taken by the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which aims to strip the Senegalese national team of the 2025 African title and award it to Morocco 🇲🇦.
⚠️ This unprecedented and extremely serious decision directly contradicts the fundamental principles of sports ethics, foremost among them integrity, loyalty, and respect for the fairness of the game. It stems from a clearly erroneous interpretation of the regulations, resulting in a decision that is gravely unlawful and highly unjust.
⚽ By calling into question a result achieved at the end of a match played regularly until its conclusion and won in accordance with the rules of the game, CAF seriously undermines its own credibility as well as the legitimate trust that the African people place in continental sporting institutions.
❌ Senegal cannot tolerate an administrative decision that erases commitment, merit, and sporting excellence. Senegal firmly rejects this unjustified attempt to seize a legitimate title belonging to Senegal.
🔍 This situation calls for an independent international investigation into allegations of corruption within CAF’s administrative bodies.
⚖️ Furthermore, Senegal will pursue all appropriate legal avenues, including before competent international judicial bodies, to ensure justice is served and to restore the primacy of the sporting result.
🤝 The Government takes this opportunity to reaffirm its solidarity with Senegalese citizens detained in Morocco 🇲🇦 following the events of the AFCON final. It reiterates its full commitment to monitoring this situation to ensure a positive outcome as soon as possible.
🇸🇳 Senegal will remain firm, vigilant, and unwavering in defending the rights of its national team and restoring the honor of African sport.”
