As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we want to say a huge thank you to every Colostomy UK volunteer. 💙

The impact our volunteers make is impossible to measure. They provide reassurance when it’s needed most, helping people navigate life with a stoma through understanding, empathy and lived experience.

It costs around £500 to recruit, train and support each new volunteer, but the difference they make is priceless.

If the stories we've shared this week have inspired you, please consider making a donation. Your support will help us train more volunteers and ensure no one has to face life-changing surgery alone.

Thank you to every volunteer. Colostomy UK is stronger because of you.

We're delighted to welcome Blackpool Zoo to our growing list of stoma-friendly toilet venues.

Blackpool Zoo has upgraded 11 toilet cubicles across the park to better support people living with a stoma, helping visitors enjoy their day out with greater confidence, dignity and independence.

Simple changes such as shelves, hooks, mirrors and disposal facilities can make a huge difference when someone needs to change or manage their stoma away from home. For many people living with a stoma, access to suitable toilet facilities is the difference between feeling able to go out and staying at home.

A huge thank you to the team at Blackpool Zoo for recognising these needs and taking action to make their facilities more inclusive. 💜

Meet Ruth, one of our incredible volunteers who has helped campaign for toilets. 💜

Living with a stoma herself, Ruth understands how important a stoma friendly acessible toilet is for people living with a stoma. Through her volunteering and campaigning work, she’s helped raise awareness of the practical changes that can make a huge difference = helping people feel more confident, comfortable and included when out and about.

Volunteers like Ruth play a vital role in challenging stigma and creating positive change for the stoma community.

If you’d like to support people living with a stoma and help campaign for change, we’d love to hear from you.

Our Telephone Befriending Service helps people living with a stoma who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation by connecting them with trained volunteers who understand life with a stoma because they live with one too.

Thank you, Suzanne, for helping others feel supported, understood and less alone. 💜
