We were working with the Rangers today to clear main pathways of overhanging trees. In addition, Sweet Chestnut trees were coppiced with protective fencing installed to keep deer away from nibbling new shoots. A litter picking session was also conducted to help maintain the site.👍

What a contrast on our two volunteer days this month…bright winter sunshine to accompany our efforts maintaining the heathland on the first Wednesday…a week later constant heavy rain when removing excessive Laurel over at Finchampstead Ridges…oh well spring is around the corner!

A cold day over at Simon‘s Wood on the Heathland so the first bonfire of the winter was much appreciated. The main task was to clear the Birch regeneration and open up the heathland. From previous work the gorse has regrown and the autumn colours when the sun shines really come alive !

Yesterday, tracks around the Ridges were repaired and improved using onsite aggrigate with trenches dug to redivert rainfall.
We had been alerted to a sinkhole that had appeared on the lower bridle path and this was also secured. We really appreciate alerts such as this and thank visitors for their involvement in keeping the sites safe for everyone.👍

This week further work was carried out on the driveway to Simon’s Wood car park, following the resurfacing work of last week attention turned to the replacement of the damaged knee-rails at the entrance.It was decided to replace the damaged material with chestnut vertical posts…another improvement to the car park entrance…

UPDATE: work has now been completed on the driveway resurfacing of the car park bringing it up to a very high standard and now is a smooth entrance to the main car park...as the attached photos show.
Our immense thanks go to Finchampstead Parish Council for funding this project.

CONFIRMATION-SIMONS WOOD CAR PARK CLOSURE…14/15 August
Please be advised the car park will be closed for the above two days for resurfacing the driveway leading up to Simon’s Wood car park.

ADVANCE WARNING… please be advised that the entrance driveway to Simon’s Wood car park is being resurfaced week commencing 11th of August more details to follow…we are now currently assessing the final details and reviewing the weather forecast to determine an appropriate date which may be later than previously advised…
