We had the honour last night of attending the Mayor Making Confirmation in Woking to support our friend, Rob Leach, workshop leader for the duration of Woking Youth Theatre's original incarnation in the 1980s/90s/2000s, being confirmed as mayor.

"I want to use my mayoral year working more closely with the performing arts for our mutual benefit so I come to my 2 chosen charities, Woking Youth Theatre and the Phoenix Cultural Centre.

"For over 22 years under the direction of David Hawksworth, Woking Youth Theatre was a dynamic and successful theatre company producing actors seen today on tv, film as well as on stage.

"Now reborn under the directorship of Bruce Hazelton with the help of his wife, Jo, Woking Youth Theatre has regained its reputation and I thank you for it. For me, youth theatre has a value far greater than individual performance. It develops self confidence, creativity and interpersonal skills, so important at a time sadly when I feel that education tends to be measured by GCSE and A'Level results and when spare time is often spent alone and online."

It's lovely that Rob shares our vision of what we want to give our members, the main reason we were so keen to resurrect Woking Youth Theatre 7 years ago for the young people of Woking. We are excited to see what this year brings and are honoured to be one of the charities the mayor has chosen to support. Thank you Rob.
