Surrey is one of the UK's most generous counties, but there's even more potential to unlock. 🌱

New research from the Charities Aid Foundation highlights Surrey as a leading area for charitable giving, with constituencies like Esher & Walton, Epsom & Ewell, and Farnham & Bordon among the country's top givers.

But the research also reveals something important: community connection is the key to greater generosity. In Surrey, only 39% of residents feel engaged in their local communities, and when that changes, giving follows.

At Community Foundation for Surrey, this is exactly what we work towards every day. We connect donors, ideas and resources to where they're needed most, helping people turn goodwill into lasting impact. From volunteering and skilled mentoring through our Funder Plus programme, to local area fund panels and a range of giving options for individuals, families and businesses, we make it easy for everyone to play an active role in their community.

💜 Why pyjamas matter 💜

Through the support of CFSurrey donors, grants like this help provide something small that makes a big difference.

Pyjamas are given to children in some of the most difficult circumstances – arriving at A&E without belongings, fleeing unsafe situations into refuge, or simply not having essentials of their own.

They offer comfort, dignity and a sense of normality when it’s needed most. At times, they also provide families with a small source of peace in the hardest of moments.

Funding from Community Foundation for Surrey has enabled PET to support 11 additional learners in prison from Surrey with distance learning courses, benefitting them, their families, and the communities they will return to on release. In responses to PET's monitoring forms, one learner studying an RYA Day Skipper course.

Participation in PET-funded courses has a broad and lasting impact - boosting confidence, improving mental wellbeing, and strengthening employability and motivation to take on new roles within prison. For context, learner feedback from across all areas in the past 12 months indicates that:

• 80% chose a course linked to a job.
• 88% feel they can now do something positive after release.
• 71% believe they have a better chance of securing a job after release.
• 84% feel better able to cope with prison life.
• 44% reported benefits to their confidence, personal growth, or mental health.
• As a result of their PET-funded course, 33% applied for different prison work, 47% gained a volunteer role in prison, and 53% applied for further courses.

Thanks to funding from CFSurrey donors, Maybury and Sheerwater Community Trust (MASCOT) has continued to provide vital support to local people facing challenging circumstances.

From foodbank and Warm Hub services to conversational English sessions, health activities and employment support, MASCOT has reached around 150 individuals and delivered over 4,000 visits during the grant period.

Their growing “Let’s Talk” English sessions are helping people build confidence, navigate everyday life and move towards employment, while health and wellbeing activities – including fitness sessions and smoking cessation support – are improving quality of life across the community.

✨ We are delighted to announce the opening of a brand new fund - Cavendish House Trust Community Fund✨

This Fund has been set up to support organisations that are based in East Surrey, but with a specific focus on Lingfield and Tandridge. The fund will award grants to charities who support:

🤕 mental health

💊 substance abuse

👨‍🦽 physical disabilities

💚 learning disabilities

We are delighted to be working closely with the Trustees of this Trust to support their grant making in Surrey, and continuing the legacy of kindness and support for their local community.

At the 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘆, we support heritage and local history year round, including a recent 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 💜

This funding is supporting the development of the Spelthorne Museum which has recently re-located to the Staines Library Hub. The Museum recently opened and this new setting is enabling the Spelthorne Archaeology and Local History Group 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲.
