🌿🎨 What a wonderful start to our Community Hub Art Project! 🎨🌿

We had an excellent first session on Wednesday with our amazing participants and the talented artist Sally Ferguson 💚
The day was filled with creativity, curiosity, adventure, fresh woodland air, changing weather, laughter, and new experiences as we gathered together in the beautiful surroundings of Horsell Common 🌳🍃✨
This special project, organised by Shifa Network CIC in collaboration with Surrey County Council, will help co-create a nature-inspired mural for the Community Hub space 🎨🦋🦌🌼
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the first workshop so positive and memorable. We are already looking forward to next week’s session! 😊

As part of our project seeking to understand the barriers that may prevent people from black or Asian minoritised communities from having eye (sight) tests we’ve...
• Held 7 separate engagement events with different groups across Surrey
• Worked with community leaders to ensure the events worked for the people we’re keen to hear from
• Through community-based face to face engagement and a supporting survey we’ve collectively reached over 200 people
• Assisted 19 people to book eye test appointments.

Our Sight on Equity report has now been published - https://www.healthwatchsurrey.co.uk/report/2026-03-03/sight-equity-understanding-barriers-faced-black-and-asian-minoritised-communities. Key findings show that the preventative benefits of sight tests were not understood or prioritised with cost and language acting as key barriers.

We are really grateful to the community groups who welcomed us to their meetings and events and to the organisations from the eye health/sight loss sectors who supported this work.
