WHAT A DAY! 🚣‍♀️🚣🎉

•Firstly, we welcomed and ceremonially launched our new Harker's Yard Gig “REBEL”, built by the skilled shipwrights & apprentices at Pioneer Sailing Trust, enabling us to introduce more people to the joys of rowing over the months and years ahead! 🚣‍♀️💛🖤

• Then she was joined by 6 other crews who travelled from across Essex, Norfolk and even Somerset, for the 3rd running of our annual “Row the Rat” adventure race.

• Stunning, sunny conditions this year meant for a fantastic 11km row down the Colne, around Rat Island, and back up to the finish.

• The Wivenhoe Sailing Club bar and BBQ followed, and then it was time for prizegiving. First boat back was Rozinante 🍫, but on corrected time the overall winner (and 1st mixed crew) went to DEFIANCE 🏆🥇🥇, with Bluejacket taking 1st men’s crew🥇.

• HUGE thanks to everyone involved with making today possible, and to all the crews who took part.

• Next year’s Row the Rat will be 4th September 2027, so save the date!

Another busy weekend for Defiance with three early morning training rows and two evening social rows.

For the final row of the weekend, Defiance was joined by our Pembrokeshire longboat, George, for a glorious sunset row in company.

Both boats raring to go for their trip around Mersea Island next Sunday 🏝️😜

24/08/2026

After a busy weekend for Defiance with three training rows and three social rows, not a drop of tide was wasted as we closed the weekend with a Sunday sunset row 🌅

No rest for the wicked as Defiance was back out training this morning. What a way to start a Monday morning ☀️😎
