All our leader are volunteers in Girlguiding and Scouting

💙 HAPPY VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK! 💙

A tribute to the Girlguiding volunteers who regularly perform miracles that would concern medical science.

To the leaders who can:

🎒 Pack a minibus.
🏕️ Build a campsite.
🔥 Light a fire.
🎨 Run a craft.
🩹 Administer first aid.
💰 Manage a budget.
📋 Complete seventeen forms.
📞 Contact thirty parents.
🎵 Lead a campfire.
😴 Function on four hours of sleep.

…all before their first cup of tea.

To the volunteers who have spent an entire evening preparing an activity, only to be greeted with:

“Do we have to?”

And then twenty minutes later:

“That was the best thing ever!”

To those who have developed the supernatural ability to hear:

“Leader…”

from over 300 metres away.

Usually at a volume that could be heard from space. 🚀

To the volunteers who have somehow become:

Part-time teachers.
Part-time counsellors.
Part-time event planners.
Part-time chauffeurs.
Part-time detectives.

And full-time experts in locating items that were “definitely in my bag a minute ago.”

To the leaders who have crawled under bunk beds, untangled necklaces, comforted homesick girls, rescued burnt marshmallows, fixed broken costumes, sewn on badges at midnight and explained - yet again - that no, sleeping bags do not count as clean clothes.

To the people who have willingly spent their free time covered in mud, glitter, paint, sun cream, campfire smoke and mystery substances that nobody can identify.

To the volunteers who know that a successful evening meeting is approximately:

10% planning.
20% organisation.
70% controlled chaos.

And somehow still turn it into magic.

Because while the girls remember the adventures, the laughter, the friendships, the camps, the challenges and the memories…

They rarely see the late-night emails.

The risk assessments.

The endless spreadsheets.

The emergency runs to buy more biscuits.

The 11pm panic that you’ve forgotten something important.

Or the fact that someone, somewhere, is currently laminating.

For no obvious reason.

Because that’s what Guide leaders do.

So this Volunteers’ Week, thank you to every single volunteer who gives their time, energy, patience, weekends, annual leave, car boot space, sanity and occasionally their voice.

You are the reason girls believe they can do anything.

Even when you’re not entirely convinced you know what you’re doing yourself. 💙

Now if someone could tell us where the scissors are, that would be great. ✂️

Did you find any of the Bee Seed Bombs this weekend? 2nd Wivenhoe Guides have been working on their Craftivism badge, part 3 was to go out to the community, we chose guérilla tactics - leaving the seed bombs for others to find and distribute. The hope is the wild flowers seeds create environments for bees and other beneficial insects.

Thank you to everyone who comes out to support us with Santa Sleigh Brightlingsea

Thanks to your incredible generosity the 2025 Brightlingsea & District Rotary Club's Santa Sleigh runs raised an amazing £7,000! All of this money will be used to support local charities and good causes and we would like to say a huge thank you to...

Our collecting partners 4 Youth, Brightlingsea In Bloom, St Helenas Hospice Bsea Support Group, Ladybirds PreSchool Thorrington, Wivenhoe Scouts & Guides, Alresford PreSchool PTA, Gt Bentley Primary School, Porridge & Pens, Brightlingsea Lido and the Cinque Port Deputy's Gift Fund.

Our amazing Santas and Mrs Claus.

All those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the sleigh running including the Shedders, Brightlingsea Kennels & Cattery, DAB Automotive, Bellett Engineering, Europit Tyres, Esign Media, the Brightlingsea Late Night Shopping Angels, and the many other helpers who give their time to keep the show on the road.

And most of all - thank you to everyone who donated and came out to wave and see Santa. We are blessed to live in such a very special and generous community.

We wish you all a healthy and happy 2026 and Santa and Mrs Claus look forward to seeing you all again next winter.

If you are a local charity, good cause or an individual with a special need and would like to apply to the Rotary Club for support please contact our Secretary Fiona Brown on [email protected]

Congratulations to our group of Explorers who have just completed their DofE Gold Expecition.
Well done to Lizzie and Nicole who have now completed their Gold DofE and King Scouts awards.

This is also a thank you to all the Scouting and Guiding volunteers who have helped them on their journey since Beavers and Rainbows, through Cubs, Brownies, Scouts and Guides to get them to Explorers with the skills they needed to succeed.
