Jim Laker Fund The Jim Laker Fund was set up in 1997. Small grants, interest free loans and grants against loss are available from the fund, as well as practical support.

The Jim Laker Fund was set up in 1997 following Jim’s unexpectedly early death the previous year He was the Managing Director of Exmoor Ales and inspiration behind WestFest, Wiveliscombe’s b**r and music festival. Friends and business colleagues set up the fund in his memory to continue the tradition of support for local community organisations in need of help. Small grants, interest free loans and grants against loss are available from the fund, as well as practical support and advice. During the seventeen years of the JLF’s existence it has raised in excess of £60,000 for local causes. All money raised by the JLF is put back into the community through application to the Jim Laker Fund.

At last week's lovely Wivey Street Fair, the Jim Laker Fund stall was kept busy selling our Annual Draw tickets and our iconic merchandise. For the second year running we sold all of our 1000 tickets, raising more funds to distribute to groups across the 10 Parishes. All winners have now been notified, so we can now publish the lucky prize recipients and thank all of the local businesses that generously donated the prizes 🥰😘❤️

On September 19th 1879 the famous illuminations in Blackpool* were switched on for the first time. Tonight's JLF Bonus Ball winner, Jon B from Combe Florey, will be lit up with joy as he chose BB square no.45 - congratulations! 🏍🎈🎉🎊💰
*This display was known as 'artificial sunshine' and consisted of just eight Arc lamps on 60ft poles, costing Blackpool Council £5000. The picture below shows the 1912 illuminations with 10,000 festoon garland lamps!

Fifty years ago today, the Muppet Show made its debut on British ITV*.
Within 3 months, 4 million viewers were regularly tuning in on Sunday evenings to watch the zany show. Tonight's JLF Bonus Ball winner, Al F, can also join in the fun as he chose BB square no.36
* Networks in the US had not taken up the option of showing the Muppets at this point 🙄
