Great to be back out on bikes today, one week on from finishing Highway To Hull.
Last year I was sat on this bench feeling very low, when I had the idea of riding to Hull for Fiona and Macmillan Cancer Support
Fi and I used to sit on this bench often, eat a sandwich and admire Church Green and St Mary’s.
When I told Paul Chandler about it, he asked “When was the last time you rode a bike? And how far was it”.
I said, “Well, when I was about 14, me and my pals used to ride from our neighbourhood to Humber Bridge and lark about on the foreshore and in the woods. It was about 4 miles each way”.
He then laughed and said “You’ve got no chance then”.
I said “Mate, I’ve got SO much motivation, I could ride to Hull on a BMX!”.
Thankfully, he convinced me to use a proper bike 😆
But early this morning, we got the BMXs out and had a celebratory spin. It felt GOOD. And a nice way to jointly share another moment on this rather incredible journey.
I’ve now got a plan for this bench, that I’ll let you know about soon.
In the meantime, I’m going to stroll back into town, enjoy the sun, meet our Goddaughter and co. Then go for a Sunday lunch at The Tavern with Paul, Biff and others, count the money in the donation bottle and end my week in style.
Have a GREAT Sunday and week ahead Everyone.
And thanks again for all the love we’ve had since getting back.
