WitneyBenefice We are six Church of England churches, some large and some small, serving the town of Witney and the villages round about.

We are an inclusive church embracing a hospitable Christianity. St Mary's is Witney's parish church, the home of services for Witney Feast, Remembrance Day and the Mayor's Carol Service at Christmas. Many people come here for weddings, christenings and funerals. Many more come for concerts and other events throughout the year. It is one of the churches of the Parish of Witney, and you can find more information about events and church life by following the link. We are an inclusive church embracing a hospitable Christianity, committed to living our lives in the love, joy and hope of the risen Christ. We are here to worship God and to help each other to grow in faith. If you would like to come along or get in touch with us, we will be delighted to welcome you. The church building of St Mary's is huge and very old, one of the oldest buildings in Witney and one of the biggest in West Oxfordshire. Its origins go back to Norman times but the present building is mostly 13th century and was dedicated in 1243. Standing on Church Green near the town centre, and with its spire a landmark for miles around, it is hard to miss. Please consider making a financial contribution to the Parish of Witney. Our vision is to continue to server our community for many more years but we are reliant on whatever you choose to give which would be both hugely appreciated and gratefully received. There is a new YouTube video exploring 450 years of bellringing at St Mary’s, Witney. From 16th-century bequests and daily ringing at 4am and 8pm in the 17th century, the film follows Georgian change ringing, a period of Victorian neglect when the belfry became a venison larder, and the bells’ modern revival.

River Blessing and Benefice Family Picnic

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the River Blessing at Minster Lovell. Special thanks to Hester for leading such a thoughtful and inspiring service in this beautiful setting. Some of us walked along the river from the town centre, meeting others at Minster Lovell. A kingfisher even flew past during the blessing, making the occasion especially memorable. Afterwards, we enjoyed a picnic together.
