Hedge weeding a key job hasbeen tocare for the hedge. Thesuccess rate for the saplings has been very good with few failing. We still have sixty saplings in reserve to use to replace and to plant aroundthe IBCs. This is a hand weeding and takes time, but the results are great. Our neighbour has donated some sheep fleece to help mulch the saplings. A dropof fertisler will help growth. It is starting to take shape.

Since March 2024: Much of the focus has been on clearing the roadway, building the drainage headwall with plenty of nooks for widlife and levelling the roadway. Thanks to our two RHS qualified professional gardeners for looking after the Hazel tree. Saturday 29th June a working party did a lot of work and filled a skip in clearing and levelling the area. A lot of work been done by individuals over this period.

The final major piece of work on the sw boundary has been completed. Treescapes planted 650 native tree saplings to create the new wildlife, bird friendly hedge. Up to us to carefor these plants. A great piece of work, coordinated by Keith. who has led on this project. Over1000 hours of volunteer time has been given by members. Thanks to Severn Trent we had the money to undertake this project.

Around 1000m2has been recovered from the work. The area has been cleared of a considerable amount of waste and been opened up. This is now an area to walk and sit, a relaxing spot.

A few minor jobs remain. Thanks to al lwho made this possible. Fullstory at www.wingerworthallotment.co.uk

The SW boundary project is back on track with Treescapes installing the stock fence. It looks great and clearly shows the path. Mike Sims, the PC's Footpath person has visited and 'over the moon' with the work done. Brilliant job by Keith, assisted by Noel, and his 'crew of 3' fromDerwent Treescapes, started at 8am finished at 3-30pm. 34 hours work in total. Just the hedge planting in December. What people said was impossible to do...........well have a look!

Hopefull, this week, weather permitting work can recommence along the South West Boundary. The work will include raising the lower branches of the overhanging trees and installing the fence .Due to unnecessary delay caused by a few 'anonymous letters to the PC', we have missed the window for sowing a wild meadow seed mix along this area (about 700m2). This hopfully will be completed next April.

Please be aware that the top carpark will be used by the contractor. Finally as a bonus, the trimmed branches will be chipped and left for members in the top community area.

The photos shows now and hopefully after.

Work along the boundary over the next few weeks will see the trimming back of branches, the stock fence installed and the grass sward in front seeded.

Hopefully the image below show a before and after to give an idea of the area once finished. Then 600+ native, bird/insect friendly hedge saplings will be planted end of November and this will mark the end of the project. All this work is paid for by our Severn Trent award and will carried out by DerwentTreescapes.
