Corps of Drums Introduction Day – Brock Barracks

On Sunday, we ran a Corps of Drums Introduction Day at Brock Barracks, led by Lt Adrian Jasper, County Music Officer.

We had 8 cadets attend, most of whom had never picked up a drum or bugle before. The day began with a hands-on introduction to Corps of Drums instruments, with everyone getting the chance to try the Side Drum, Bugle and Bb Flute.

Cadets then chose an instrument to focus on and were introduced to basic drum rudiments and simple bugle calls. As confidence grew, the training progressed onto drill, finishing with the challenge of playing on the march.

By the end of the day, what started as a group of complete beginners had come together to perform a simple Corps of Drums tune — a great achievement and a real highlight of the day.

One of the key messages from the day is that you don’t need any previous musical experience to get involved in the Corps of Drums — we will teach you everything you need to know.

A very successful event, and fantastic to see the cadets’ enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to get stuck in. Well done to all who took part.

Applications are now OPEN for our Junior Aviation Course. (Previously known as The Junior Aspiring Pilot Programme)

This four day course is specially designed for youngsters with disabilities to get a fascinating and exciting introduction into aviation and to boost everyday skills such as teamwork and organisation. This course will be held at our Blackbushe and Tatenhill base:

Well done to Cadet LCpl Ellison on her community engagement project.

Ellison collected food for the Community Fridge in Woking and clothes for the Salvation Army in Maidenhead.

Her hours of selfless commitment to the community will help those in need and contribute towards her community engagement training badge at 3*
