Can You Help Us? 🎺

The Windlesham Branch - Royal British Legion is seeking a trumpeter, bugler, or other brass musician to play the Last Post and Reveille at our Remembrance Sunday Service at the Village War Memorial, beside St John's Church, Windlesham.

We are looking for someone who can be available between 10:15 and 11:05 on Sunday 8 November.

At the end of September, more than 70 members and guests came together at Windlesham Golf Club to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Windlesham Branch of the Royal British Legion.

It was a fantastic evening, bringing together members, supporters and friends of the Branch to mark this important milestone. We were particularly pleased to welcome our local MP, Al Pinkerton, and his wife, both of whom joined us for the celebrations. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of Poppy Appeal awards to a number of local residents and Branch members in recognition of their outstanding commitment and service. Remarkably, those recognised had supported the Poppy Appeal for between 5 and 35 years! We were also treated to some fantastic live music throughout the night from the Band of The Royal Army Medical Service.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Branch over the years, raised money for such a fantastic cause and helped make the evening such a success.

On this day 81 years ago Victory in Japan day was commemorated, effectively ending the Second World War.

Europe had celebrated months earlier, while British, Commonwealth and Allied Forces in the Far East continued the fight, suffering terrible losses. After almost six years of the most destructive war in history, peace could at last be celebrated, and preparations made to return home, with Allied prisoners of war liberated and repatriated after their appalling experiences.

Join us in remembering the service and sacrifice of all involved in the Far East, without whom the freedoms we enjoy today would not have been possible.

We will remember them.

🇬🇧 VJ Day – 15 August

Today we remember Victory over Japan Day, marking the end of the Second World War and the surrender of Japan on 15 August 1945.

We remember the service and sacrifice of all those who served in the Far East and across the wider conflict, and especially those who endured the terrible conditions of captivity.

We will remember them. 🌺

Thank you to everyone who supported us at this year’s Windlesham Fete! You helped us raise over £820 for this year’s Poppy Appeal!! That gets us off to a flying start and every penny goes to worth while causes.

On Monday 8 June, we’re hosting a BBQ in place of our normal monthly meeting — a chance to get together, enjoy some food and catch up.
