📘A deeeeeep dive into The Work Of Love LAST NIGHT📘
An intimate and cosy gathering for Alva Gotby in the gorgeous attic room of The Railway Inn last night. It was an absolute treat to hear Alva discuss her book and suggestions with us. A wide-reaching talk followed by a supercool Q+A.
We discussed... the obligation of familial bonds, the feminisation of care, how work supports and reflects the nuclear family, family abolition, "care-washing" in the workplace (my clumsy term), virtual representation of caring roles, and how we might take emotional support outside of private spaces.
You can get Alva's book They Call It Love from your favourite indie bookshop - our locals are P & G Wells Ltd and October Books . Alva's forthcoming title 'Feeling at Home' explores housing and domesticity and comes out via Verso Books in Jan 2025.
Attendees raised £35 for START - Sexual Trauma & Abuse Restorative Therapies via the raffle, which they have received with thanks.
Thanks to all who joined us last night, to the brilliant venue staff for looking after us so well, and thanks to you for reading! 💜💜💜
Next up is radical poetry at The Bookshop Alehouse this Thursday.
