๐Ÿชฒ๐Ÿƒ 30 Days Wild at Kingfishers! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿชฒ

As part of our 30 Days Wild challenge, the children explored the fascinating world of insects! We chatted about our favourite minibeasts and learned about the different body parts insects have, including their legs, antennae and body segments.

Using natural materials, the children then created their own imaginative Leaf Bugs. A simple leaf became the body of their insect, while they carefully designed and added legs, antennae and even winding bug pathways. Every creation was unique, sparking creativity, conversation and plenty of curiosity about the natural world.

Activities like this help children develop their fine motor skills, creativity, observation skills and understanding of the environment around them, all while enjoying the great outdoors.

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿž We are loving taking part in 30 Days Wild and can't wait for our upcoming Minibeast Hunt, where we'll see what amazing creatures we can discover around preschool!

๐Ÿ… **Sports Day 2026** ๐Ÿ…

What a fantastic Sports Day we had today! Although the unpredictable wet weather meant that, for the first time in over 20 years, we had to move our Sports Day indoors, the children didn't let that dampen their spirits one bit!

The children enthusiastically took part in four exciting races:

๐Ÿƒ Running Race
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Shopping Race
๐Ÿฅ” Sack Race
๐ŸŽพ Racket and Beanbag Race

Throughout the morning, the children demonstrated fantastic listening skills, balance, coordination, perseverance and teamwork. They encouraged one another, celebrated each other's successes and showed wonderful sportsmanship from start to finish.

Events like Sports Day are about so much more than winning races. They help children develop confidence, resilience, physical skills and a positive attitude towards being active, all whilst having fun with their friends.

We are incredibly proud of every child for taking part and giving each challenge their very best effort. A huge thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the morning such a success despite the change of venue.

Well done to all of our amazing little athletes! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿƒ Another Wonderful Morning at Allotment School! ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒฑ

At Kingfishers Preschool, our Allotment School offers children so much more than outdoor play. It provides exciting opportunities to develop confidence, independence, communication skills, resilience and a lifelong love of nature through real-life, hands-on experiences.

Such is the popularity of our Allotment School that we are currently running sessions twice a week to ensure more children can enjoy the wonderful learning opportunities on offer!

Last week, the children set off on their walk to the allotment armed with telescopes, carefully observing the world around them and discussing what caught their eye. This sparked lots of conversation, curiosity and the introduction of new vocabulary as the children shared their discoveries with friends.

Using real hand-drills, the children created colourful spinners, developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration while learning how to use tools safely. They also spent time planting and caring for our fruits, vegetables and flowers, helping them understand responsibility and how living things grow and thrive.

Our creative activity involved making beautiful fan baskets, which encouraged mark making, perseverance and careful control of small movements. We finished the session by learning about hedgehogs through a story packed with interesting facts, helping children develop empathy and a greater understanding of the wildlife that shares our environment.

Our unique Allotment School is a special part of the Kingfishers experience, offering children opportunities to explore nature, use real tools, grow food, discover wildlife, take managed risks and develop essential skills for lifeโ€”all while having great fun outdoors! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿฆ”โ˜€๏ธ

From planting seeds and caring for crops to wildlife discovery, tool work, crafts, campfire cooking and environmental exploration, every session is packed with meaningful learning experiences that simply can't be replicated indoors.

Before Half Term, we enjoyed a lovely trip to the local park for our family picnic! The children had a wonderful time socialising with their friends, exploring the different play equipment and enjoying the outdoors together.

It was also a great opportunity for families to meet one another, chat and build new friendships within our preschool community. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a special afternoon for the children. ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿงบโ˜€๏ธ

At Stepping Stones to School this week, we focused on understanding and talking about feelings ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿƒ

Using our feelings tree, the children explored different emotions shown on the leaves and shared times when they had experienced those feelings themselves. Together, we talked about why we might feel happy, worried, excited, sad or proud, helping children to recognise that all feelings are important and okay to talk about.

We also enjoyed sharing a selection of feelings books, discussing the different scenarios and how the characters may have been feeling. The children showed wonderful empathy, listening skills and confidence as they shared their own thoughts and experiences.

Supporting children to recognise and express emotions is such an important part of preparing for school and building positive relationships with others ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ“š

Recently, the children enjoyed creating their own bead necklaces inspired by traditional West African beads. We looked at pictures of beautiful bead designs and also explored the flag of Niger together.

Daphrose and Antoine loved watching the children use their fantastic fine motor skills to carefully thread brightly coloured buttons, beads and pasta onto their necklaces. Activities like this are wonderful for developing hand-eye coordination, concentration and the finger strength needed for early writing skills.

The children also enjoyed chatting about their favourite colours and thinking about which colours the twins might like best, helping to build communication skills, confidence and cultural awareness through meaningful conversation and shared experiences. ๐ŸŒโœจ

๐ŸŒŸ Sensory Circuits at Kingfishers! ๐ŸŒŸ

Every day at Kingfishers, we run Sensory Circuits (or as some of our little ones like to call it, the Sensory Circus ๐Ÿคนโ€โ™€๏ธ), and the impact has been truly wonderful! ๐Ÿ’›
Sensory Circuits are a structured, short movement programme designed to help children get ready for learning by supporting their sensory and physical needs.

Through a series of activities, children engage in:
๐Ÿ”น Alerting activities โ€“ to wake up the body and brain (e.g. bouncing, skipping, jumping)
๐Ÿ”น Organising activities โ€“ to improve focus and coordination (e.g. balancing, throwing, catching)
๐Ÿ”น Calming activities โ€“ to help settle and prepare for learning (e.g. stretching, deep pressure exercises)

Weโ€™ve seen fantastic benefits across the setting, with children improving in focus, self-regulation, confidence, and core strength. Itโ€™s also a brilliant way to support emotional well-being, helping little ones feel settled and ready for their day.
Whether itโ€™s hopping, climbing, balancing, or stretching, our daily Sensory Circuits are making a real differenceโ€”and we love seeing the children embrace them with such enthusiasm! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’ช

Nothing more exciting than a huge delivery of fresh sand! The children were so excited to see the sand pit topped up and ready for lots of digging, scooping, building and imaginative play.

Sand play offers so many benefits in the Early Years. It helps to develop childrenโ€™s fine motor skills and hand strength through pouring, patting, digging and using tools. It also encourages creativity, problem-solving and teamwork as children build together, create stories and explore different textures and concepts. Sand is a wonderful sensory experience too, supporting children to feel calm, engaged and curious as they learn through play.

We are incredibly lucky to have our large undercover sand pit, allowing the children to enjoy sand play whatever the weather. Whether itโ€™s sheltering from the rain or keeping cool in the sunshine, it provides the perfect space for year-round outdoor learning and fun!

At Kingfishers Preschool, the children have been busy using their gross motor skills through large-scale construction play outdoors. Using crates, guttering, wooden planks and other large loose parts, the children worked together to design, build, balance, lift and problem-solve as they created their own imaginative structures and obstacle courses.

Large-scale construction play offers so many valuable learning opportunities in the Early Years. As children carry, stack, push and position heavy and awkward objects, they are developing their core strength, coordination, balance and spatial awareness. These experiences help to build the strong muscles needed later for fine motor skills such as writing and self-care tasks.

Construction play also encourages communication, teamwork and critical thinking as children share ideas, negotiate roles and test out their own solutions. The open-ended nature of loose parts inspires creativity, resilience and confidence, allowing children to take risks safely and become deeply engaged in their learning.

It has been wonderful to watch the childrenโ€™s determination, imagination and sense of achievement as they worked together to bring their ideas to life.

The children have been busy exploring our local area and learning about different parts of the world, which inspired some very exciting imaginary adventures before half term! ๐ŸŒโœˆ๏ธ

Our role play area was transformed into Sharonโ€™s very own aeroplane, ready to take off to โ€œeverywhereโ€โ€ฆ including South America, Africa, Niger and even Florida! The children loved buying their tickets before climbing aboard, choosing their seats and taking turns to be the pilots flying everyone safely to their destination. ๐Ÿงณโ˜€๏ธ

Through their imaginative play, the children shared stories, worked together, explored new vocabulary and went on some wonderful adventures together. It was lovely to see their creativity and excitement as they travelled the world from the preschool room! ๐Ÿ’™
