LANHAM LANE DEVELOPMENT

Advice from the local councillor is to give very short response to the developer's consultation, and instead respond to the final draft of the local plan, designating Lanham Lane as countryside, which will go to the Inspector:

"We recently launched the Reg 19 consultation of the local plan, which is the final draft which will go to an inspector, and it maintains the Lanham Lane site as countryside.

The new plan maintains a five year building land supply and no sites round Wi******er have been considered as back up sites. We have been building at above current target levels and have 1350 still to build at King's Barton and many more with permission elsewhere.

Broadly blue is water (including drainage ditches and ponds), green is trees and meadows. These are easy to include in a large site but at the expense of lower housing density. They do not include any services.

Previous contact with the developer (where we were clear the development wasn't needed) suggested access off Stockbridge Rd not Lanham Lane.

The developer like several others is trying it on to get their site in front of the planning inspector as one ready to go rather than refused by the Council.

I will be responding to the consultation simply saying I oppose the proposed development and with the only comment being on the consultation being inadequate both in scope and time given to respond. There is no point giving detailed comments as there is the opportunity for the developer to say they have listened and made changes. As agricultural land it is very easy to create biodiversity net gain alongside development and they will undoubtedly be using the nature emergency as an argument for development.

The local plan consultation is live https://www.localplan.winchester.gov.uk/ and I suggest responding to that as comments will get to the inspector.

At this point only the inspector can choose to add or take away sites to the plan so no point lobbying the City Council.

Kind regards
Kelsie

As you may know Rob Carter is purchasing Little Dunthrop following Dave Fould’s sad death in January. 🥲 The good news is that he is planning just two houses toward the front of the plot and says he intends to keep the orchard at the back. He is aware the area is home to hedgehogs and there’s a bat survey being undertaken. Surely the trees by the greenhouse are full of them. Very kindly he says he’s going to offer residents the chance to remove any plants etc in the autumn. He’s in touch with the immediate neighbours and intends to adopt a joined up approach to rehoming the wildlife.
RIP Dave. It coujd have been worse 🤓
